I guess the focus on this board is LL .. and from a LL point of view I accept and agree with everything GG has shared with us. I personally don't list FHS at my LL and never will, no recip = no listing.

If the FHS are only used to build up LL .. then I feel enormous potential is being lost in the use of FHS .. LL is not the only game in town and FHS are not built for the exclusive use of LL .. I'm sure if any good webmaster put their mind to it they could come up with 10 valid uses for FHS that didn't include LL.

IMHO there is great benefit in strongly branded FHS that are not LL friendly.

The original concept behind these was to give an alternative to LLs that matched the hosted galleries that TGPs use - and that was it.

I do agree there are other reasons to build hosted free sites of a different type for entirely different purposes as some programs have with their zipped sites etc - but this type of free site we are concentrating on here is really the LLs "filler" sites just like the hosted gals and thats really it

I've submitted several of very similar sites to these over the years...

if you mean the paysites, then I have one other sponsor using very similar tours, mainly because I did them. But I haven't done any designs for 'clients' for a few years. Atleast any that are online yet. Not quite sure what you ment with your comment though..

You REALLY see how the same basic template structure is being re-used by looking at multiple free sites promoting the same paysite.

One of the greatest annoyances on those HOSTED FREE SITES (not free hosted sites) is the keyword stuffing of the thumbs' alt tags. It's pointless and, as I said, annoying.

One of the reasons I very rarely use HFSs is due to the fact that they quickly begin to look the same. If I can't add more than a couple of a sponsor's HFSs without seeing the same template, I simply don't bother. Some people seem to think that changing one graphic or the background color is enough to call it a new template. It's not. Think about the overall layout of the site.

They're a little heavy on the graphics side & the main & gallery pages are all the same template with different colors & backgrounds.

Yes they are, and it was a conscious decicion to make them that way, both graphics and similarity. Just to save time to be honest. You wouldn't list those on your site because they're too similar in appearance?

The sites are not yet live as isn't my affiliateprogram version 2, so I still have time to shake things around. However I'd hate to just discard those sites and start from scratch, as even with the same template it took me quite a few days to make those all...

I quite honestly thought it WAS enough. It IS enough when submitting GALLERIES.

Ah, woudn't know about that. I know one that I use FHG's with quite similar galleries, and one other sponsor to whom I made galleries for. But not sunnydollars, not sure if I've even seen a sunnydollars gallery..but a gallery can't get more basic than this.

I personally like a "non professional" looking site. one that looks like a submitted site as opposed to a paysite. They are well made from a desing and appearance, but i like more text, less graphics and clearly defined ads or banners with text.

I also, presonally, like clearly defined galleries instead of thumbnail looking images linked to a gallery with no "gallery 1", etc text. I see the alt, but like something in text.

You already mentioned adding titles instead of the paysite.

These are my preferences, but you definately want the big guys opinions as they'll send the most traffic.

Yeah, I'll change the foldernames to match the graphic/title on the site. (and I think I ought to change the actual <title> as well).

I've been out of the freesite loop for so long that I don't even know who the big guys are above the ones that were big guys 3 years ago.

Sponsors are providing HFS and/or FHG for your convenience. To expect recips on top of the provision of content and site building is just ridiculous, IMHO.

I remember when to make money in this business it was required that you worked...like any business, it required an input of both cash and time to see a reward. I miss those days...
