i have always had a hard time getting any website i am involved with actually listed in dmoz. i was just wondering if there is something i can do to push the issue with them that anyone knows of ?? and is it worth the effort that it might have been some years back? thanks everyone for any input you might have to offer!

If you follow the submittal rules/guidelines they will usually add you - however it can take some time
The most important thing is that it has to be something unique - not an affiliate/advertising doorway etc

Is it worth it ? Well it is if good quality linkbacks are important to you - and if it is very unique, the traffic quality can be great - and since it is mirrored in the Google directory as well, the traffic gets better

I dunno man, that seems VERY optimistic.

Lots of cats in there seem functionally abandoned.

DMOZ banned me a long time ago after the 2257 mess.

Many reviewers on Dmoz are having their own sites listed and reject their competition. It's a clear conflict of interest, but Google doesn't care about it.

Doesn't seem like google thinks the same about dmoz adult now. No link to their directory and no pr for the pages I was listed in.

I guess the google directory isn't exporting the dmoz list?

For a moment I thought this was a very old thread that was bumped.

DMOZ has become irrelevant today IMO. Have they even added a single porn site in the past few years?

Well, I do know from observation that they have removed at least hundreds and probably thousands, with no rhyme or reason whatsoever that I could see. Anybody else can confirm that by browsing.

I have very old shitty ad infested sites still there, and much newer sites with much fewer ads and much rarer content removed. It looked like an insane process to me.

I did a series of test submissions last year, looking for cats with active editors.

I stopped checking, but at the time I couldn't see any sign that any were added to any cat.

I was thinking of doing another test series.

I was able 2 get a couple sites listed within a couple weeks last year, but that was after searching out mods and being persitant. Finally, a "meta mod" or whatever it's called that can edit any category looked up my subs and listed them.

Not getting anything listed now. It must be good to be an editor there, just don't review anything but your own sites to list.

From Googles Webmaster Tools

"One source we use to generate snippets is the Open Directory Project. You can direct us not to use this as a source by adding a meta tag to your pages.

To prevent all search engines (that support the meta tag) from using this information for the page's description, use the following:

<meta name="robots" content="NOODP">

Note that once you add this meta tag to your pages, it may take some time for changes to your snippets to appear in the index.

If you're concerned about content in your title or snippet, you may want to double-check that this content doesn't appear on your site. If it does, changing it may affect your Google snippet after we next crawl your site. If it doesn't, try searching Google.com for the title or snippet enclosed in quotation marks. This will display pages on the web that refer to your site using this text. If you contact these webmasters to request that they change their information about your site, any changes to their sites will be recognized by our crawler after we next crawl their pages."

Yeah. DMOZ is not accepting anymore sites. It is very hard to be accepted in their directory.
