Optimum Feed Length?

I'm curious to know how long is too long for a feed.

I imagine that if I keep adding entries at some point the content will be so old it won't much matter if I trim them off the feed anyway.

Also, I wouldn't want to drown a spider to death with a hugantic glass of milk, even if he is new and wants to gulp down everything I've got.

A sort of defacto blogger standard is the 10 most recent posts but honestly after the initial read of the feed, the spiders only look at the recent stuff....at least the feed spiders and readers.

So then maybe frequency of posts is a more relavent factor...

I know I haven't gotten into the habit just yet, but I'd like to make regular, frequent posts.
