I've got 4 or 5 domains with GoDaddy, non adult, low traffic. Always found them OK on the phone, but I lost a domain I didn't really care about a year or so ago because I forgot to renew it. My fault entirely, but for the domains that count I still use Netsol because they remind me about 17 times to renew the damn things.
I don't mind paying a little extra for that
I'd never use a mainstream outfit to host adult sites though, wether they allow it or not. They don't speak the same language.

An anology of people still using godaddy is one like using a sponsor that has not paid some people for no reason at all. "I still get paid so I am still going to keep using them".

I'm sure a lot of people will never have a problem with godaddy but with their record, why take the chance?

Since the day they opened, we have used directnic and don't see us changing anytime in the near future.

Whatever happened with the guy who had his site shut down for alleged CP?

But Stu, what would happen to your business if any of the nightmares we see just on this board happens to you? For an extra $10/year, you can go from, "it can happen to me" to "it will never happen to me".

Oh, if you are still with GoDaddy, you still have plenty to worry about. Best to take Jim's advice, then stop worrying.

Interviewer: - How many times a month, on average, do you suspend a customer's domain name based on the content of his or her Web site?

Directnic: - Generally 20 to 50 domain names a month.

Dave, is that hypothetical or did you read that someplace? I read this yesterday.
"Declan McCullagh from CNet surveyed 12 domain registrars on their policies for handling abuse complaints. DirectNIC and French registrar Gandi.net, he said, offer the most extensive guarantees against unnecessary domain name suspension. DirectNIC requires a court order unless a clear case of child porn or phishing is involved, and Gandi.net takes extensive steps to contact domain owners."

Any host is going to take down your content if it goes against their use policy. And as far as their hosting, its worlds cheaper than any other i've seen out there, worlds.

The guy in the article is actually a friend of mine. As soon as I read the article I called him up and got the full story. Essentially someone posted a whole bunch of MySpace Log-ins to a security mailing list. His site indexes theses posts and puts them on his site, which is very popular and great reading if you need to keep up to date on cutting edge security news.

Any way MySpace got wind called GoDaddy. GoDaddy immediately pulled the plug on the domain. GoDaddy told the news that they called the owner of the site and gave him an hour to respond. This was not true. The time stamp on the GoDaddy voice mail and the time to when they disabled his account was 58 Seconds not minutes.

Long story short GoDaddy assumes guilt and administers punishment until proven innocent.

It's true GoDaddy is a stable registrar and I've done business with them in the past. People who get scammed out of their domain names rarely tell the whole story and have most likely fallen prey to scammers, phishing schemes, or do something stupid like use the same login and password for every site that is easily guessable.

Granted, I moved all my stuff from GoDaddy to The Planet because it's cheaper and they are just as reliable.

If you read the entire article you would have seen that the domain was re-enabled within the hour. I've had webhosts down longer than that! Granted I don't have many domains with godaddy but I do have quite a few with their membership site at bluerazor. It's a lawyers world. Now a days a company won't piss in a toilet until the legal department signs off.

Just my 2 pennies worth.

I am one of those who "have never had a problem" at GD but well aware of the many, many horror stories and complaints over years about heavy handedness and bully, shady, tactics of GD from boards all over the spectrum.

I'm thinking Stu that some things you don't have to waste time worrying about when someone else has already spent years sweating the small stuff and just gives you the answer, that's a be happy time. Thank goodness I have far fewer than 200 domains but I'm pushing the to directnic this month if I can. Apparently no one can stop GD from its bad behaivor. IMHO, There is something comforting knowing that only a court order can get you shut down. You have the opportunity to fight a court order.

Ouch, I just transfered all my domains to Godaddy from RegisterFly. Sounds like GoDaddy is just as bad.

How long does one have to wait before they can transfer domains again?
