I downloaded 2 zips (actually 3 because of the thumbs); took one look at the pic size and deleted them. My bigger complaint was Adam's inability to zip a folder without there being 6 subsequent others in the chain before finally getting to the pics.

There are so many other programs out there that would love to make you happy to get your traffic. Surprising response.

It's getting to the point where you wonder why some sponsors even need affiliates. Sponsors supply: hosting, gallery building software, canned graphics (headers, footers, etc), content (some supply thumbnails, photos resized, etc), fhg...what's left for the affiliate to do? The only thing I see left is for the affiliate to spam the shit out of tgps, ll, etc, with all this pre-made crap. |

I'm no great prize as far as sponsors go, but I can't believe someone would RESIZE a photo by making it BIGGER. That doesn't seem like an option to me. That is the kind of stuff I see affiliates do and think, "thanks for nothing". Thanks for making our content look totally crappy.
I wonder if they provided small pics is because they thought that would decrease the chances of people feeling the need to diminish the quality in order to scrimp on bandwidth. Did the content look good other than that? How much smaller than 600 pixels are we talking about? It does seem lame that they wouldn't just give you a pass to their site to get what you need. My motto is, if I can't help you, help yourself. |

Let me hijack this thread momentarily on the topic of giving affiliates access the to a site's members area. Now, I realize that sites like Trixie's and Raven's and other such model owned sites won't have this issue because they shoot their own content, so my question is aimed towards non-personality sites. Many content licenses specifically disclude use by affiliates. In other words, the content can be used solely by the purchaser on his/her sites, but cannot be shared with affiliates. How do sponsors deal with this? Do you purchase only content that is licensed for every use under the sun (which is waaaaay more expensive), or you do inform affiliates of specific sets that can or cannot be used?

I will never understand programs full of sites that are comprised of non-exclusive material. What's the point? I have trouble taking seriously those paysites with tours full of rbc content that they paid a penny a pic on. (yes, there is a time & place for overexposed content, but tours and major program sites are not it) Exclusive content eliminates so many headaches. The little bit of purchased we use or 'shared' (a common practice among amateur sites) has brought us nothing but problems. btw- shooting in house gets you exactly what you are looking for, and I've found it to be a much better value than contracting out. If it is Adam - give him a shout - he can be gruff sometimes but he is a fair, honest, and tough sensible businessman. Him and his wife have a great sense of their niche which I am sure you are profitably aware of.
The "tone" of an email can oftentimes be misleading. So talking with him is the best way to go. When you can each give your opinions more directly on why or why not to make an exception then I am sure you will both come to an understanding that fosters better biz between you. Ummmmmmmmmmmm.... Of course if that fails then we would love to work with you... |

Far-L, I appreciate what your saying, but I rarely give someone a second opportunity to blow me off. I've re-read Adam's email reply numerous times looking for various intended meanings. I've yet to come up with one that isn't disrepectful and unprofessional.
Since I deal almost exclusively with independent "amateur" sponsors I've gone out of my way to establish a presence in the community, let them know I'm trustworty and professional. Some of those that have posted in this thread can attest to that personally. I will simply send my traffic elsewhere. As for your program, I've been signed up for some time and have been eagerly waiting while you sort out your promo content area. I look forward the getting checks from you on a regular basis. I just love getting money in the mail. Quote:

They have the Internet on computers, now?

That just sounded like a really "I'm tired of webmasters asking for everything" type response. Those people/sponsors need to step away from their keyboard and come back later when they are less burned out and realize that a legitimate question requires a thoughtful response.
If your affiliates can not use the content you provide and you refuse to assist them, and you can't see the point of making it right, it won't be long before you're like a fish on a beach gasping for air... I would agree that webmasters have gotten spoiled and really don't put the effort into doing good work, but here you have a webmaster this IS willing and wants to do a good job and the sponsor says "I can't please everyone?" He should send you the pics out bigger. You can't make a bigger jpg from a smaller one b/c of the compression issues. It will look like crap. I'd move on to another sponsor... there are plenty that are willing to do what it takes to make you both profit from your work. I guess I could have said all that with a simple /agreed but I had to rant my 2 cents LOLOL and not that this has anything to with anything.. but this is my "69th" post... 69 is such a great number

Move on Toby. <-That was my original advice. You can email him one more time and just let him know that if you can't get content required to submit to his tgps, you can't afford to submit his galleries just to have them declined because of the size of the images. Sure, it'd be great to be able to submit endlessly to TGPs and LLs, but many of us pay to submit a certain number of galleries and our submissions are money to us. We just can't afford not to get listed.
If he can't understand that then move on gracefully.-> Last edited by GunnCat; 2006-01-28 at 10:41 AM.. |

Well she is right, you can't please everyone...but you don't come right out and say it. I would be shocked if I received an email like that..however...as was pointed out earlier, it could be that the girl took it as just a complaint and not a request for something larger.
If she brings in a few sales, I would email back and see if the attitude is any differet
