tee-hee... Well, I guess the big news is that Aly is no longer doing the AVN thing... so now we really have nobody to bitch at about the show. I have a feeling that this will be another step to end up with the video and internet shows running at the same time in the same places rather than running seperate shows in the end. After all, the internet is just another revenue stream.. or should I say DVDs are just another revenue stream for net porn?

Im sure there will be the same "underlying principles" at work for Internext though as I have always believed she served as AVNs buffer when they saw the unrest growing - and I hated it for her.

Think about the last few Vegas shows that you've went to - did you really need the badge?

The floor is not what it used to be, the badge itself does not get you into any parties as everyone's gone the route of the "party pass"

It serves no purpose what-so-ever.

I doubt I'll even be getting one this year

I agree and that's been totally true for the last few years, but now that things are combined, it might be different. I think AVN has figured out people aren't down with the inflated cost of badges, and might try and pull something sneaky.

In Miami this year, I about got into it with the Badge-Nazis at the Westin. The fact I was a paying guest of the hotel wasn't enough. You had to show the room key AND the badge.

I wondered what would happen to a guest that was not allowed into the hotel at all. The law suit that would have hit had they denied access to a paying guest would be very bad publicity.

Moby, actually - no. The requirement to get a room was to be part of the internext group. Failure to have a badge made you not part of the internext group, which means you obtained the reservation through fraudulent means (you claimed to be part of a group that you then refused to be part of).

I don't think the hotel or AVN would be on the hook at that point - people booked and showed up knowing it was a "hotel takeover".

I think AVN learned something from Miami. The hotel was not a sell out (rooms were available 2 days before the show book direct with the hotel), and the attendance for the event was down overall. The show at Mandalay was such a screw up that it taught people to work without badges. Huge numbers of people spent their day hanging out in the middle bar and in the hallway leading to the show. No need to pay AVN $X for a badge if seeing the show floor isn't in your plans.

Now, this time, the "internext" badge will (apparently) also get you access to the video show, so there is some additional value. But if the badges are still $300, then I will have to make other arrangements. Paying for a badge at that price is truly outside the realm of "value".

I think I'm going to apply for one of those free "Press" badges just to see what happens. Hell, this site is for webmasters & I'm sure I could write up an article on my show experience.

Maybe I'll have a contest to get badges for "contributing editors" as well
