Certified Nice Person

If the wife and I go (my intentions change as often as my psychoses), there's no way in hell that we'd pay for AVN registration. The price is OUTRAGEOUS, especially considering that I've heard next to nothing nice about their most recent shows - not to mention the fact that it falls on the heels of that well-celebrated Jewish boy's birthday. We want to go only because it's Vegas (BABY!) and to see a few of you filthy bastards (and your hot wives, where applicable). I can promise you that no AVN convention will ever earn me more than I'm currently eking out of this rotten fucking business (pronounced: bidneth). If I was to pay for admittance to a convention, it would be Xbiz, since I've already had one solidly positive experience with them.
The perfect show for an ass like me would involve no sponsor presence. Fuck the sponsors. (That's what I say!) They can't do shit for me and I can't do a cunt hair more for them than I do now, so why bother? I want well-planned seminars which, by the way, wouldn't include two traffic brokers on a "Converting Free Traffic" panel telling me to buy traffic. I want parties/gatherings. I want food. That's all I need. The occasional handjob in a maintenance closet would be good too, but certainly not a requirement.

I agree with you that I should have read the fine print on their site. But since I had gone to just about every single show since the 90's before it was called IA200 then Internext - when it was mainly audio text back then. I thought someone would have a least cut me a litle bit of slack and let me at least check out of the hotel so I could have gotten another room somewhere else. My wife didn't do anything except sleep in the room and visit with friends that lived in Florida. They should have a least offered a discounted price for spouses that would restrict them from attending certain events etc... The thing that upset me the most was their total lack of respect. Secondly we got there one day after the show had started so the following day when this happened, there was only 1 day left for the convention.

Now THAT was the kind of feedback I'm looking for.
Any other webmasters still UNSURE if they are buying badges or not? I know I spoke with a few of you in the past few weeks. |

NO! Im not a female - but being a dragon, I do eat them.

Oh I agree that they are total dicks about the whole thing - stems from the show three years ago in Fla where anyone could come in although the hotel was supposed to be closed to just show attendees - and people were crashing just about everything
Not saying I agree with it - and if they let her in after the show had started without checking for a badge first then I would be filing a suit against them - if they break their own policies first then you have every right to be compensated |

Bad deal. No smoking and have to buy a badge to bring a whore to your room. What's left?

I have attended every show since '99 with the exception of the last summer show. I have also not paid for a pass for myself nor my staff for the last 3 shows attended, thanks to sponsors, media connections or friends in low places.
Regardless of the free passes, I don't feel that the show, or even the networking opportunities are worth paying for two or more international flights, hotel and general headaches in January this year. I may change my mind, but I'm leaning VERY heavily towards staying in the great white north this year for the first time. IA2000 used to be a great opportunity. I learned so much, and came home motivated and inspired. The past couple of years I have strengthened a few relationships, but came home cursing the 3 week catch up period and the Visa bills. Reduced passes are not going to cut it for me. I want a show that is worth my while and effort, and will make me want to rush home to try out the things that I have learned, not kick myself each time. Quote:
Good luck to AVN and their endeavours. I will be happy to give them a shot again when they come up with a plan that makes sense. Until then, I'll avoid the Vegas flu and spend my hard earned dollars more responsibly. |

I dont see myself buying badges or attending any shows for a long time. A few months back I was seriously thinking about going to one of these shows. But after I read the posts here I don't see the point. Most of the posts are about the bad things at the shows. I see mainly 1 or 2 good things posted but mostly everyone posts about how great it was to met up with everyone here. I'm willing to bet more business gets done with people here after meeting people here. I'm waiting for GG to open the pool house this summer for the board members. Now that I would pay $250 for lol.

Don't get discouraged; it's usually the last key that opens the lock...

I don't plan on making the trip, but if I was I don't think I'd buy a badge after reading this thread. Seems to be much more negative feedback on the shows than positive which does not give me the urge to make the trip.

Last year in vegas I met more CES people on the show floor then anyone else.. in the 3 hours max I spent there, aka fucking security sucked, it was completly different then the year before when I was there, which was my first show.
FL this year the show floor was usless, I met more people poolside and though the hotel then i did on the show floor. However since everyone is in the same place it makes it easier I will be going to vegas this year, how can you pass up a tax deductable trip to vegas, but I am waiting on buying my pass until I get there. If its like vegas last year, I wont buy one as i get more done at the bar then i do the show floor, but if they fixed security and have people on the floor, ill think about buying one |

Vegas last year was the worst it's been since my first show IA2000. I'm undecided about 07 at this point and waiting to until the last minute to decide. I can't see spending the money on a badge if things are going to be the same as last year, or possibly even worse.

Not much yet.
We've touched base after Thanksgiving with a few emails back and forth. We are supposed to have a phone conversation about some details today, depending on our schedules Unfortunately I have been out all day and just got home. I am currently waiting to hear from them. Not much to tell other than that. Based on the feedback and what I was trying to do, in all honesty I might just be contacting people personally about all this and not posting publicly about it. I was hoping to do something with the radio show, but it's looking like that might not be the way to go. No big deal really. I'll know more after the phone call. On a side note, early registration has been pushed back until Dec. 8th. |
