Affiliate banner sizes, which size banners do you prefer?

Were getting ready to build a bunch of banners for our affiliates and were wondering what size banners do you find most useful to promote a site?
I know Full Page and Half Page ads are great. 120X60 and 468X60 are pretty popular also.
What size banners do you find most useful?
Thanks for the input

Something a little bigger than the 468X60 would be nice - say in the range 510x90 - the reason - many surfers have their browsers set to block out the standard sizes so 468x60 and x80 are rarely seen

I tend to use mostly odd sized banners like 200 wide by 300 high.

I don't use banners.

I do use headers 740x150 and buttons 125x125

Funny, I was just going through phpadsnew last night to determine which banners were working for me and which ones weren't producing.

Oddly enough, my 120x60 buttons seem to have the best CTR.

I like larger odd sized banners. I'm not fond of the 468 x whatevers. Busty Cafe has a few beatiful banners at 534x220 that are commanding in size, yet not so big that they mess with your layout. The banner on top of this page is an example. I also like 350 x 200+. For me, anything that is less than an HPA, but larger than the norm works well.

A surprising number of sponsors don't do any or don't do enough vertical banners.
Cheers

I tend to migrate to the odd sized banners. But, some sponsors don't offer much...so, I'll either go text only or sometimes use the standards.

One way to help alleviate the issue of banner blockers is to slightly resize the banner...just a few pixels should do the trick.

do you mean offering the site logo/graphics in a zip or something so webmasters can make their own banners?

Yep, yep. I find 100x400 or 80x400 verticals to be very useful. But not with text turned sideways! That just makes 'em look like a 468 x60 banner turned on its side, which is just silly.

All sizes.

Surfers have become ad blind to the standard horizontal banner at the top of the page for the most part. So I like to have a variety of sizes to choose from so I can work them into whatever good space I might have open on a page.

A lot of sponsors are starting to provide the graphic now, maybe for making their own banners, or just as a text box header.
ie: Spread 4 U
Give me that red "Spread 4 U" graphic at the top of the main page, and I can make up my own little ad.

On DonX's Naughty Model site I could use the the red graphic from(468x100) banner along with different models.

BTW DonX, that banner(468x100) probably can't be used on any TGP galleries or LL free sites because it has those square pictures on it. The surfers might think they are thumbs. I don't make the rules!

Now that's a good info. Didn't think about it. Thanks Linkster!

Usually I use standard ones 468x60 but best result I get on odd banners with short effective text links.

Other than a paysite members area, each page you design should be an ad. Even blogs, etc, if you're in it for money, your page should be working toward selling the person reading it something.

I think surfers have come to expect banners, and am thinking maybe naughty porn banners are actually welcome by some? not saying they're generating sales though, I don't have that much experience yet and still experimenting with all sorts of banners/texts.

For me... would like to see a nicely laid out HTML table maybe 580x200 landscape and one 20x580 skyscraper. With an animated logo and a table background same as the logo. Sales pitch with keywords in the table so the search engines can read it with maybe two text links to different parts of your site in the sales pitch and the image linked to a third. This reduces b/width allows SEs to read your pitch, and gives you more links. Properly done could *looks* like a banner and sneak past most Ad blockers cos of the text links.

interesting, I will tell our banner designer to keep that in mind. Maybe it should even be possible to just do them 470x62/82 or something?

Square banners (like 150x150, 200x200, etc... not just smaller buttons - something bigger than that) do pretty well for example for Adult Reviews sites, so some choice of those would be great.
