Cookies
Anyone have an idea what % of surfers have cookies disabled in their browsers? Is there any way to check this?

I don't have my notes on it, but I believe you can try to set a cookie and then try to read that cookie. If the cookie isn't there to be read you know that surfer isn't accepting cookies.
Of course that won't tell you know many are using some form of private browsing or an add-on of some kind which will flush all those dirty porn cookies as soon as someone quits their browser session. All of those things can contribute to lower signups being credited to affiliates. Too many porn surfers are being educated to believe cookies are a bad thing (which I'm not sure all sponsors mind). Might be worth thinking about ways to convince surfers why some cookies are valuable/helpful *for them* so they won't be as likely to go cookie-free about the Net.

Will all the sponsors cool enough to use Flash cookies to reload HTTP cookies in an effort to ensure that every affiliate gets paid every time please raise their hands?
Bueller?... Bueller?... Bueller?

Any sponsors
Actually I've been doing a little research because of the growth of new PORN browsers. So the interest in FLASH cookies. |idea|
Not only browser disabled cookies problems, but storing PHP sessions with cookies are at risk. Session IDs in the URL are at risk to surfer tampering/stripping also. So the use of the Flash cookie appears to be a possible work-around, and I hope sponsors get their act together before tracking gets too screwed up. Quote:

It does happen. some surfers are just plain dick heads. Some of them don't think we deserve a few bucks for introducing them to a site.
On the other hand I have some sponsors that have a 24 hour cookie. That just urks me but hey what can you do? You like the sponsor their sites and tools so you deal with it.

Those numbers seem reassuringly high , i wonder if any traffic traders can provide some input , most traffic scripts can redirect based on whether cookies are enabled or not (cookies disabled are worthless to trades). Just wondering what sort of numbers they would see?

The problem with tracking those numbers with a trade script is that the script can't identify unique visitors without cookies. While the trade script can't accurately count non-cookie visitors it can track outgoing clicks by non-cookie visitors. Assuming the average clicks per visitor are the same for both cookie and non-cookie traffic you can then extrapolate based on total clicks. If that assumption holds true, then no cookie traffic on my largest TGP runs at about 3.5%.

Sending it to trades is a waste of time so I send it all to galleries. Some sponsors can still track no cookie sales. If it were a higher percentage I might spend more time looking for somewhere to more effectively montetize it.

I'm sorry, but cookies are a godsend and a bane to all privacy
Chocolate macadamia nut are gift to mankkind (and womankind) First person sure, session sure But all the third party suck, I feel just as strong about this as pop ups I know it is a money maker, just as pop ups and pre checked signups are..but I don't allow them to happen to me and I prefer them not to happen to my surfers And with most sponsors I've seen cookies are worthless past the session anyways no matter their duration. Ramster and I had a discussion about this back in vegas in jan, no matter what the duration of the cookie is set to, most sponsors direct search links overwrite them by default So make the sale on the inital visit |

- most surfers have no ideal that how to change FLASH settings - FLASH cookies are not dependant on any kind of browser settings - with more government snooping/censorship, the use of porn mode privacy surfing will likely increase rapidly Just trying to stay ahead of the game. The 3-5% tracking loss now might be 30-50% in the near future. Porn privacy browsers can kill cookies, and maybe screw up current session cookies also. |
