Hosting...
I have mixed feelings about my hosting company. When I need help with installing scripts they seem to get right on it, but when something happens and my site goes down, they ALWAYS make it out to be something on my end, or that it was just my imagination. When downtime occurs, I would think that if I were having router problems somewhere that I wouldn't be able to access their main page either. Then I had FTP access problems, their response.....make sure you are using the correct user/passwords.... I know I may be a bit slow sometimes but after being with a company for a few years, you would think they wouldn't try making ya look like an idiot. |pissed| If I wasn't so script challenged, I would change host.
While I'm on this rant, I've actually come to the conclusion that it is just anything that requires some type of customer service. When I ordered my phone, after a month of it not showing up, I found out that T-Mobil has a minimum order before they will ship out to the local store.....well, that just told me that I wasn't worth being a customer cos I wasn't worth them sending out just one phone. <rant off> Sorry, just had to vent. Been one of those days. Norad |

Norad, sorry to hear that about your host...
Scripts, Ftp, passwords are usually messed up "client side" But the server not comming up/slow is usually a host side problem. But still, the customer should allways feel like he was right. Even if he was not...lol My 2 cents!!

Hey all,
Thanks for your replies. I have been with them for 2 years now, and if they have experienced down time as much in the past, I've not noticed for I haven't really done alot with those sites. It wasn't until recently that I started working with them, but twice this month I've had minor problems. Yesterday when my ftp client would not connect to the server (it would tell me that it could not connect and that was before it even got to the point where the server asked for the username/password) it really pushed my buttons when they told me to verify that I was using the correct user/password. All the suggestions for hosting is muchly appreciated. APC- I have a revshare account, and you are correct, Maestro's customer server is much better than the service I have recieved from my regular host, but I have a couple girls here who are wanting me to make a site for them and one wants a webcam, which I cant run on revshare due to the way content has to be updated. Thanks, Norad |

I was almost three years with Strictly Hosting, then they sold to National Net, and now I'm with them.
Some time ago I was window shopping and I started to think how much I can save money if I changed to other host, whose prices were only half of what I pay now. Well, as soon as I started to think about it, I read how that other host had gone down. I have never see my sites down, not in Strictly Hosting, not in NatNet. Both have done maintenance, but e-mailed me days before. I have every little trick there is in Apache to use without any extra pay. Customer support is excellent. So I understood I'm an idiot if I change. Just today I put new PHP scripts working and built new SSI banner rotator. They work like a dream. The old saying is true: you get what you order. BTW, no spam, I'm not an affiliate of NatNet, just satisfied customer.

Hello Norad,
One resource you might use more frequently when contacting your host, is your account executive. They will have a vested interest in the quality of the product you are receiving, put them to work on any discrepancies you detect. Also, if your host has a formal reporting system for problems, use it. That way if there is a recurring problem it will show up in the history of your account. Note, many hosts will track all the trouble-tickets you submit, so use the same Email address. This will keep all of your information together if the host needs to perform a database search for any and all previous occurrences to your account. Good luck, |
