DOOOOOOMMMMM!

We have had 2 cats for the last 3-4 years, we use to have 4 but due to age we lost 2 over the last 5 years. Alexis is now our oldest and she is pushing 15 years and Reggie Miller is pushing 14 and has terminal nasal cancer so it’s only a matter of time.

I did not ever want more than 2 cats again, but I realized Alexis has never once been alone in her entire life and I knew when it's time for Reggie I wouldn’t be able to think of getting another cat for a very long time, so I went to the shelter yesterday with the thought of JUST ONE cat and of course when I saw these 2 (Who also happen to be sister/brother) I knew I made a huge mistake... hence…. DOOM.

So here is our babies, Reggie's pic is a few months old since he is mad at me right now and under the bed, the other 3 pics are 15 mins old.

And No, I did NOT name him Drew Brees, that would be Toni.

They look wonderful.

We (my wife and I) have 3 cats right now - and we are thinking of getting some more.

We've had three cats die in the last 3+ years. Their deaths hit us, especially my wife, very hard.

I'm thinking it's better to have a few too many cats, so if, when they die, you have to concentrate on taking care of the others.

Cleo said something like this when the first of our older cats was dying, and I think she was very right.

There's something incredibly satisfying about bringing home a cat from the shelter and slowly convincing it that it has a great new home.

All your cats are adorable. The young ones are so cute.

I always seem to end up with about three cats.

It has hurt badly every time I've lost one but the joy of having them in my life makes it all worthwhile.

Cats are awesome. Initially my gf and me had 1 cat that we found outside our house as a kitten, completely blind, but that doesn't stop him from having fun. Then we figured he's a bit sad all on his own so we got 2 more from the animal shelter.

Then some people decided we seemed to like cats, and left a kitten in our trash. (we've aptly called that one Dumpster). A few days later, we found another kitten screaming like a mad banshee in our front yard, so we kept that one too.

Then my gf brought her cat from her house since her brother was moving and couldn't take that cat with him.

Then the first cat we got (male), decided it'd be a real good idea to have a little humpin action with one of our female cats, and my gf's cat got humped by a few street cats.

And then we had 7 kittens from that. Unfortunately 2 of those kittens died because they were born 3 weeks early. One of the kittens was taken by a friend of mine who really wanted a cat for his kids, so that left 4 kittens.

Lo and behold, a few days ago, again, someone ditched a kitten in our front yard, after cutting off it's whiskers.

So, now we've got 10 furry hairballs running around.

This was the first time ever I went to the shelter to get a cat, I grew up in farmland Indiana, so there was always an abandoned cat somewhere.

I found my first cat Ms. Randi Elizabeth at my elderly farming neighbor 2 months before I got my drivers license and I had her for over 17+ years and her passing 4+ years ago hit us hard.

Toni had Aurora for 17+ years who was a gift from an aunt, and as with Randi we both got hit hard when she passed almost 3 years ago. We got both Alexia and Reggie from Indiana farmers a year apart, so they was “free” as well and this past February we found out Reggie had cancer and was given “1 month to 2 years” and since he is still "young" by our standards we both feel very cheated, he’s doing “ok” but it’s getting closer.

The shelter is about 1 mile from us, we pass it daily as we go to the gym, I knew Toni could not handle going there so I have been telling her BS stories to explain why I was gone for 3 hours yesterday and where I went today. The shelter had a special which was basically “get 1 get ½ off the second” so it was $150 total for both, but I donated another $50 to the shelter since I wish I could volunteer there, I just can’t deal with those places since I have such a huge weakness for animals and it just breaks my heart walking into them.

So far they have been demons, totally into playing with those fake mice and Drew LOVES to growl as he plays, Sakura so far has tried to rip my necklace off a dozen times and went for a earring of mine and of course missed the earring but not the ear…. BITCH!

It has been 15+ years since we have had to deal with a kitten and now we have 2….

Wow…

I’m an idiot.

I hear ya on the terror. I recently got two young kittens at the local shelter and they take quite a bit of my time and attention.

They take turns waking up me and my lady far too early in the morning, biting and clawing everything from toes to noses.

I've been stating that I've been waiting another cat since Aurora passed. Aurora's passing made me go through Randi's all over of again, because they were both so feisty. I still sometimes find myself looking for them and it has been a couple of years and a couple of moves.

Alexis is so laid back and will let you do about anything to her. Reggie, is Reggie......grouchy except when he wants love.

So I've really wanted another one that is as feisty as Randi & Aurora. I told him we were getting another in about 6 months. But he beat me to it and then brought 2 of them home!

It is weird to have kittens again, but it is great.

Cute cats, Rose.

Every time I go home my cat Lynux push his head against my feet. Too sweet.

And it let out my stress from work.

Kittens can make you suffer - and they suck up time and attention - but they sure are entertaining.

Those are great looking cats!

I have 2 cats, 5 dogs, and I can honestly say that I think I reached my limit with pets...unless I move to a farm (now there's an idea). Still, my pets really are what keeps me sane in this insane little world in which we live.

Also, yeah it's better to have a few too many than not enough...when my first dog died (19 years old), he was really the only dog I had for years and it was extremely painful. Granted I had other dogs, but he outlived them all, lol and when he got older I didn't want to stress him with a pup. It was extremely difficult though once he passed.

Nice cats, and the kittens are so cute!

I have two, one of which is begging to be picked up and petted as I type. Loki is a big male cat, that we bought from a breeder. A bengal that can be fiesty at times, but has turned into such a love begging pettings from MadHatter all the time.

BuBastis (or BuBu for short) we got from a local shelter and is an abyassian. She was really skinny when we got her, but she is one plump small cat now. She will eat anything, poor girl, and we have to watch putting plates in the sink with any kind of food because she will clean them off. She should weigh about 7 lbs, and she weighs 11lb, but giving her kittenhood of being starved by parents who had 10 cats and couldn't afford to feed them, I don't know of any way to break her habit of eating as much as she can as often as she can. We got her at the shelter, and I wish I'd of picked up her sister at the same time.

The two of them don't get along very well at all, lol. We have a lot of . Sometimes I think of getting another that would hopefully play with Loki the way he'd like to, but i'm afraid 3 would make the worse.

How do your cats all get along Torn?

Your cat Alexis is beautiful!!

I think it's a good idea you got those kittens, loosing an animal and having an empty house is hard.

Enjoy your new kids

You all have Cute Kittens And cats. I have 3 cats all rescued from being abandoned or abused. My male Dooder is a big lug the ruffer you pet him the more he likes it ( i think hes kinky) i also have his sister missymoo shes so layed back and lovable. Then there is the Sucky bratt sheba who's mother i let in my home and she dropped off 3 kittens for me sheba picked me and i found great homes for the other two . ( mom cat decided she did her thing then took off again )
I also have a dog as well as an African Grey ( the mouth of the south she is ). If i could i would continue to rescue but space and time to give them all the attention they would all deserve just isnt there so i have cut myself off from anymore pets for now.

My last dog a cockapoo i had for 18 and a half years was the hardest thing i have ever had to do was put her to sleep. I think of her all the time as well as spend time were i burried her ( on conservation land ) the Canada geese sleep on her all the time . Animals make life so much more fun.

I like cats their cute and I think you did a good thing today. wtg

I had one a few years back that used to terrify dogs on our street. It would hunker down in a recess between our front wall and the next door neighbours as if it was hunting and it would wait for dogs to go by either on a leash or alone and as they drew level it would leap out of hiding, landing on their heads with a screaming kind of howl that scared the dogs to death. Before they could get their bearings it would leap clear and run off across the road to look back at its handi-work.
I swear you could see the evil grin on that cats face as the dog looked around wondering what the fuck just happened to it. Funny thing was he never clawed them, he just got a kick out of scaring the dogs with his kamikazi dive off the wall. He'd then go about his daily routine of visiting all the old folks homes down the road where he got fed, brushed and fussed over by all of them in turn. I think they enjoyed his visits as much as he enjoyed all the attention and he became a great fat cat with a real sense of humour.

So far Alexis and Reggie are not amused at all, Alexis is the most docile cat I have ever seen, but she is not happy at all. She has rarely hissed or got mad in the 15 years we have had her, (Just a few times when Reggie has pushed her buttons she has smacked him down which normally has been around 3-4am and you wake up to blood curling screams that scare the fuck outta you.) but she’s walking around pissed off so we are trying to get her to chill out, which will happen over time. She has been ruffled since yesterday and keeps hissing at them, as well as Reggie which we fully expected since he is Reggie and has had a bad attitude since day one.

What we didn’t expect is the wonder twins have no fear at all, Sakura went nose to nose with Reggie who outweighs her by 10+ lbs and she never even tensed up (I was holding her) and both are incredibly playful, but know when to chill out as well.

They both love to be handled and haven’t complained a bit when we put them in the spare room when we left for the gym (We wanted the other 2 to have peace while we was gone) and Sakura sat on my lap for over 2 hours as I watched a movie last night as did Drew with Toni, so they have made their claims.

This really is weird after 15 years to have these evil demon spawns running around again.

Blue Brit, I can just picture that! That must have been something watching it do that, too bad you never got that on video.

Right now, Loki has Bu trapped behind my flat panel tv that sits on a triangle shaped shelf by my desk. I think he enjoys messing with her.

I know what you mean on the blood curdling screams Torn. Loki pissed Bu off when we first got her (we had him for about 6 months alone first) by jumping up and swatting her when she was sitting on the kitchen table. She punished him by hissing and chasing him whenever she saw him for about 2 weeks. It was terrible, we came close to giving Bu away at that point, but people said she is teaching him boundries, and when she feels he learned his lesson, she will stop.

He learned his lesson all right. He still messes with her alot, but he always makes sure she sees him first before he touches her, lol.

At that time, Loki outweighed her by almost 10 lbs, and it was funny to see Loki running in terror from her.

Well he finally got bored and let her out. She is perched on my laser printer right now. Cats are such a joy.

I love reading all the pet stories, especially the cats.

But MadCat....10 of them?!? Wow? Are they mainly outdoors?

My folks live out in farm country and will have any where from 1 to 30 barn cats. And I mean they are usually pretty wild, only family members can touch them if they catch them.

They tried to go without any barn cats (got too attached to them & they have a very short life span) but the field mice would get out of control.

The babies are adorable, Torn Rose. Two years ago, I lost three of my furry friends. I now have two younguns to help keep the 16 year old Russian Blue in line. I cannot imagine a day without purrs from all three of them.

May your brood all settle down and bond as a family.
