Google Desktop Search

Have any of you guys started using this
http://desktop.google.com/
I didn't think I would have a need for it but it is handy.

this product got a bloody good feature and review on the BBC's Click Online Show,

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/click_online/

Its not a bad programme, heres there homepage -

Pretty good for most things they preview free font sites, open source applications such as browsers and media players.

You can watch it online well worth having on in the background :-)

Guess it depends on how comfortable you are giving Google access to the files on your hard drive.

Windows has this really cool feature - you just click "start" & then "search" & then "for files or folders"

Windows search doesn't do a great job searching browser history, email...etc.

You don't like the little search button on Eudora, which I know you have open 24/7

Google Site Search

I think they follow only the links with their on-site search. I use it on internetsexnetwork.com. It works fine. Plus you have the option of anonymity of info or something, which I picked, like the toolbar. Beside, you don't put sensitive info on an open server.

Alexa has a snarky spyware dongle thingy (forgive me, my technical is formaldehydable) which the good anti-spy and ad ware progs (only two IMHO - Spybot S&D and LavaSoft's AD-Aware) detect and disable.

Maybe I'm naive, but I trust the Google help-ware; they have too much at stake, aren't Mr. Gates yet, and want to take over the world in a benign way. Better them than Disney or McDonalds, anyhow...

Positive thing with site-search: page rank, relevance assistance and the fact that you're linking to them.

I vote: Yeah.

What you use on - internetsexnetwork.com - is not - Google Desktop Search

Google Desktop Search is an IE/win app

Alexa is not Spyware, and is a long standing site and toolbar that has been open about its information collecting for many years.

Privacy I am not worried about with Google Desktop Search - it's security that is the problem.

Tie IE, google and your HDDs together and you are asking for trouble... IMO

OH!

I was sure I'd read "site searc' at one point.

No, i don't understand "desktop search" and find it hard to trust.

You either have a system that is well organized or its a system that isn't well organized - but ok for you, as long as no one else has to look for something.

Was it desktop or site search whereof we were all rapapping bout?

...sounds great in theory (like all Microshit) until you start using it!

Last week I was looking for some old galleries with particular code in it, and "Search" couldn't find any, so I looked manually and found about 10 directories containing them, and all matched 100% my search string!

edit: now I got into such a rage about MS shit I forgot to comment... Yeah, I heard/read really good reviews about the Google Desktop Search, and about giving Google access(?): I believe the toolbar is a lot more suitable to collect data, and I still wouldn't wanna miss it...

I'm sure that more holes will be found. I would never give an online search utility access to my hard drive.

The built in search function works great in Mac OS X and next year they are coming out with an an even better one.
