10 pounds of shit will never fit into a 5 pound bag - 20 seems WAY too many.

Well I have made some custom recips - I'll have a site up later today with 20 recips on. Its smaller and cleaner than when I was using 12 -15 recips.

Hmmmm.
20, (five rows of four), is how many I've been building into my custom-made recip tables. (I haven't actually got any sites online yet - that comes in a month or so).

I've been concentrating on making sure that they look clean and stand out from the norm. I'm hoping that most LLs will like what they see and use my freesites. If I get rejected it's an easy edit to remove a row or two, so no big deal really.

More than 20, even on my "slicker" recip tables does seem to be pushing things a bit much. There's just so much text there! I wish you luck and look forward to seeing how it looks later.

I think the freesite surfer is much more likely to skip over a recip table the more he gets used to a style, so it's a good thing to shake things up now and then.

I hope.

But I'm very new and it's all very confusing!

Well many LL owners have been talking about using more than 20 recips in a freesite for both reducing duplicates and improving SEO.

I'll have an example up later today for you to see with 20 recips on and you can imagine adding an extra row or two in there and give me your feedback

20+ UNcoustomized recips I would agree would look awful, its hard to get 15 to look okay.

erm, I just made a site with 21 recips. I guess I will delete some and make it 18. It is so hard to decide who gets deleted. I have had up to 24 text recips on a site and I thought it was ok?

Really depends on how they look. Don't think there's any way to keep it looking decent while using the actual list recips. Even with custom all text recips, it's gonna be tough for it not to look overcrowded.

I currently use 16 and could see going to 20. Had thought about pushing it further, but having actually built a few test pages...it does get pretty cramped looking.

That said, I will keep my rules in step with the larger lists if limiting to 20 becomes a trend.

20+ recips may be good SEO but it's not very surfer friendly.

Okay here is a freesite with 18 recips - you can imagine adding a couple of rows or an extra column on a slightly wider site which would bring it over 20.

hmmm...I don't know if I like that one, aren't they kinda small?

why is it frowned upon to have lots of recips? I'll tell you, when I was a surfer, I would often bookmark pages that had lots of links so I could come back later and check them all out. If a site has 30 reicps inst of 10, I'm more likely to go back there because I know I'll find lots of other places to go with the same thing.

I've always found this rule puzzling, unless it's just an esthetic (sp) thing?

Surfers actually click those recips? I'll take some SEO over 1/2/3/4 clicks per freesite any day of the week.

Don't knock recip traffic. It's not much if you look at it one site at a time, but if every site on your LL sends 1 hit a month back and you've got 10k listings, that's 10k visits per month. I know, not really anything to dance about, but not "nothing" either

I think it would look a lot better without using everyones boxes and be better for a se spider to crawl. One table with just the text for each ll. That's how I am doing them and I only have 16.

Jel, I'm talking about free sites where surfers have to jump over a huge recip table to get to the enter link.
