Starting a link list, cheater question

I'm planning my link list now and have a question to the vets, how do you know when someone has used an autosubmitter?

Is the referring url different from your site url, so you just catch that?

I'll offer my (likely to be less-than-popular) opinion - if you can't tell, who cares?

(For the record, I don't use an autosubmitter.)

ROFL... start your list... ask for submissions on a public board.. and you soon wont have any trouble identifying the ones that are the problem ;-))

I moved an old domain last week.. that once upon a time was a linklist.. realised it had 6000 sites in review queue and it was still getting 30+ submits a day.. although no submit form is visible and nothing has been listed in over a year. Gives you an idea how little attention some webmasters give to their auto-submit systems. I havent checked them, but that 30 could easilly all be from the same "cartel" of scammers btw

That's an easy way to check who is auto-submitting as well.. disable or move the submit form every now and then.. and collect a list of what comes in when it shouldn't.

I had a similar situation on one of my TGPs. When I changed scripts, I took down the submission page for the old script, but left the rest of the script in the background. Low and behold, many submissions continued to poor into the old database. Of course, on my TGPs, autosubmitters are a blessing. Who else is going to submit to zero traffic TGPs?

Autosubmitters as such aren't the problem - the way some webmasters are abusing them is!

There are probably 1,000s of honest webmasters using them, too! And then there are 100s of constant cheaters (some of which even hand-submit!).

So what you'll need is a decent gallery checker!

So, from what people have posted, it's a matter of a high volume coming from one person in a short period of time that is the key?

Also, that's hilarious if you're getting submits without having any submit form available.

I'm just trying to figure out what I should be looking for...
