Took the hint.

I can actually see my house, yes, and this is one of the rare programs that actually has my street on it complete like it really is. There are a bunch of areas that are not so good, but around my place is fine.

What do you suppose this means as far as keyhole being better than google?

A little nonsense, now and then, is relished by the wisest men

Google's must be at least a year old or more because my house isn't there. My street is, but it's still all woods.

the pictures are pre-Sep 2004 for my area. probably Dec 2003 - March 2004.
And google did aquire keyhole a while back. I also like http://terraserver.com and the fact that you can actually buy pictures down to .15 meter resolution depending on the area, although their previews aren't as good as maps.google.com

Google's had KeyHole for a while now - I saw them talking about it on 60 Minutes a few months ago.
The Key Hole pics are a lot closer, but look to be the same ones as far as the time frame. My new garage is not there that was put in 2 years ago but the trees that fell 3 years ago are not in the pics - so probably late 2002 or early 2003. |

Seems pretty cool, what a shame that it only has maps of the US.

You think if you started getting maps of The White House and stuff that maybe someone would start watching you a little more closely? |confused|

many of those buildings have the rooflines erased.
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington DC 20006 even OEB and the Treasury buildings are blanked out. The Pentagon and the region's largest parking lot is quite visible. RR International Airport looks really clear. Blue Plains, the Navy Base, Andrews Air Force Base is quite clear. I would suspect whatever bureau they purchased the images from is under contract to remove significant buildings. The Old Russian Embassy is pictured, National Geographic... The Capitol building isn't obscured. Just East of the WTC construction site is a 'block' that is missing -- not sure if that is intentional or a glitch, but, zooming to different levels doesn't fix it. The Sub pen at groton, ct appears to suffer the same glitch. Norfolk, VA has a bunch of missing blocks where Naval operations take place. Ironically part of the Naval Academy is blocked out. Fort Meade's data center seems to be missing. They appear to have blocked out the parts that don't contain tourist attractions, but, obscured some of the buildings that are in areas where they couldn't get away with removing the photo altogether.
