Any exotic pet owners?

I raise and rehab American box turtles as a hobby, mostly eastern box turtles.
Here's a site I made about it:
www.billsboxturtles.com

Anyone else have unique pets out there?

Hehe my daughter has hermit crabs, do they count? One of them she has had for 3 1/2 years now, which is great cause they are often called the 'throw away' pets. He finally changed his shell yesterday after trying on tons of em for the last year. If you have them for 30 years they get as big as a mans fist! At the moment his new shell is about 2 inches long.
We also have a cockatiel (quarrion), two cats and a dog lol.

I have always wanted a snake but Punani is less than keen on the idea lol. I love pythons, have a pic somewhere here of me and my daughter with a huge albino one wrapped around us.
Btw Bill I love the tortoises and I remember when you joined the board I took a look at that site I see its changed a lot since then, loads of info. Dunno if its my browser but the text on the FAQ page is HUGE. I like Carl, specially the pic where he sees food, haha his eyes almost pop out!

Oh, I also used to have one of these guys:

http://www.petbugs.com/caresheets/ga...-giganteus.jpg

Giant Vinegaroon
(Mastigoproctus giganteus)
http://www.petbugs.com/caresheets/M-giganteus.html

A buddy from AZ sent it to me. He has them all over his back yard.
It's defense mechanism is to spray a vinegar like acid from the base of the tail as it waves the tail to spray it all over. You can smell the vinegar and it will burn if you have sensitive skin.

My wife wants to get a scorpion and a spider of some sort. I told her if either got away, we would have no choice but to move. We used to have a snake and a Paraná. Both died early...

I had a tarantula when I was a kid for about 20 minutes.

Our neighbor went on a road trip and he picked it up in the deserts somewhere and gave it to me when he got back.

About 20 minutes later my Mom saw it.

We have a turtle out at our place down south. She only comes out of the mud once/year though to lay her eggs.

Wow, that's an alligator snapping turtle (Macroclemys temminckii)
They are the largest freshwater turtle in the world - up to 175 lbs I think.

Wow Emma that turtle is cool! Reminds me there is a place north of here where you can go watch hundreds come out of the ocean and lay their eggs or a few months later you can watch all the babies run for the water as they hatch. It's called mon repose or something.. near Bundaberg. I must try and go this year. I think I have just missed the baby run tho.

That bug looks interesting but icky with the spray bit! And tarantulas are a huge fucking NO WAY around here. I love snakes and don't mind most bugs but I am pretty much arachnophobic.

I have a "happiatus teenagerous" which is pretty exotic.. a happy well adjusted 15 yr old that actually likes school.

We have a small family of geckos that live along my back wall. I can never have Torn over for a visit because he is the worlds greatest gecko killer.

Don't know how exotic, but she is kinda cute

Bandit

Then of course, there's 'Ali'...we don't feed her though...she tends to be a little snippy

Bandit actually acts like a dog more than a racoon when she's around my girlfriend. She started coming here when she was very young (we think a bobcat probably got her mother). So, my girlfriend (who is absolutely nuts for animals )...started putting dog kibble in the squirrel feeder Bandit was decimating of sunflower seeds.

Fast forward to now...Bandit will actually run up to my girlfriend when she takes the kibble out for her. A few nights ago, another racoon had chased Bandit off the feeder and was getting her kibble. My girlfriend went out to shoo off the other coon...Bandit was nowhere to be seen. As she was walking to the feeder...here comes Bandit...running full speed up behind her. You could almost hear her screaming, "He took my food mom!" LMAO! Other coon ran off, Bandit raced back up to the feeder...happily munching away again

Obviously, I'm a bit of an animal lover too

LOl I just noticed what I called the racoon. We have an animal called a bandi coot (space cos part of that word is blocked) in australia. I always get the two confused. She sounds like a real character. Kind of like possums here.

I used to have a 12 ft boa and 5 ft python. Had both for 4 or 5 years. Then I could not handle all the rats screaming when death came a crawling. I'm not a big fan of rats, but it sucked seeing them hide in the corner scared shitless. One day I go so upset I took 4 rats I had bought and let them go out in the woods. I knew they would not really have much of a chance but I have heard they are great surviors so figured they might be able to handle the wild. 4 white rats in the woods, hum. Seems unlikly.
Then I bought a oranda goldfish. He lived for 8 years and got huge, he was the size of a softball. I could not even flush him when he died. Dame fins where cool as hell. People would laugh at him cause he had a large cap on his head that looks like a brain. But when I told them to look at it like curly hair they thought it was cool. Now I have another but do not feed him special food to make him large. I was reading that some chinese guys were able to grow one to be 15 inches. http://hometown.aol.com/_ht_a/kmam1/...tGoldfish.html
