Can anyone recomend any good non-us based hosting companies?

Just curious, I have responded to requests for hosting outside of the U.S. before but I was wondering what issue you were attempting to resolve by searching for a "non-us based hosting company"?

We own facilities around the world but our home office is in Chicago.

2257 issues at a guess? I have heard a few people wanting non US because they think it will solve it. But I am not so sure it will... Particularly if you live in the US.

Yes, it is cause of the 2257 issues that makes me consider changing hosting company til one outside US. I dont live in the US so I guess that having a hosting company outside the US will be a pluss (But I will not say for sure).

If you're not an American citizen, if you live outside the US and host your sites with a non-US company I don't see how American authorities can touch you directly.

Sorry, I miss read the post. I thought you were not a US resident but hosted in the US. Nevermind. |dizzy|

I had a conversation with one European hosting company today and was recommended to keep my things in the US and try to comply with the new rules. This was as I was explained cause of laws of domain in addition to the 2257 law. They could always get hold of you - even if I was hosted in Hong Kong.

I dont know more about this than I am beeing told, but I am sure that we need to check into this some more. Cause after the the 2257 regs it says

"If primary producers in foreign countries decide to
comply with their home privacy laws and not provide materials to U.S.
entities, the regulation will chill the availability of materials and
speech to U.S. citizens. The Department declines to adopt this comment.
The rule is no different from other forms of labeling requirements
imposed on foreign producers of, e.g., alcohol, tobacco, or food items
that are imported into the United States. In order to sell in the U.S.
market, foreign producers must comply with U.S. laws. This rule applies
equally to any sexually explicit material introduced into the stream of
commerce in the United States no matter where it was produced. Foreign
producers have the option of not complying with the rule, but then
their access to the U.S. market is justly and lawfully prohibited.

So if you still want to market your sponsors towards the us marked you need to comply with the new law. But I guess having your stuff hosted in some other place than the US might be good just in case.

Bullshit. If my hosting is out of USA, that US visitors at my sites are NOT US market!!!
It's the same if US guy goes to Neatherlands and buy there drugs. It's legally in that country, so it's legal to sold drugs in Neatherlands to US people. Here we see the same, if my company isn't US-company and my sites are at non-US hosting it's not a US market and everything is legal.

You are probably right Sigurd, but as mentioned this was what I was told by a European hosting company. Gotta check into all aspects of it before doing any changes |cool|

Last time I checked, America didn't own the internet..
I really can't see any benifit for myself with hosting in the states.
But I wonder is it possible to register domains outside the us?
There dosn't seem to be much point in hosting offshore with us domains.

How the hell can anything that is posted on the internet, regardless of where it is hosted, be aimed at a specific country market, especially if it is written in English???

And unlike the others mentioned, we are NOT a US-based hosting company. Our business is run from Australia, where privacy laws are extremely strict. So you don't have to worry about the local DOJ officials dropping into our offices with a court order demanding client info or your server be shut down. Think about it - would a US-based host risk their entire operation to defend a few offshore webmasters? Our laws dictate that we would have to refuse such a request.
