H1 heading vs larger font size?

Do search engines give special weight to H1, or H2, etc. headings?
In other words, will a headline just set in a larger type font carry the same weight with the engines as an H1 headling?
Assuming that the font size chosen is the same size as an H1 heading would be?

Yes they do, some more than others (but don't abuse them). You can adjust the size of the h tags or fonts using css so that they fit the layout of your page also. ;)

Thanks folks.
I was afraid that would be the answer.

There's a ceiling as to how much boost tags on any page will give you, so the rule of thumb is one H1 per page, a couple of H2s and a few H3s. Obviously, try not to use them just to make text look bigger :D
