H1 heading vs larger font size?

Do search engines give special weight to H1, or H2, etc. headings?

In other words, will a headline just set in a larger type font carry the same weight with the engines as an H1 headling? Assuming that the font size chosen is the same size as an H1 heading would be? |

Yes they do, some more than others (but don't abuse them). You can adjust the size of the h tags or fonts using css so that they fit the layout of your page also.

There's a ceiling as to how much boost <H> tags on any page will give you, so the rule of thumb is one H1 per page, a couple of H2s and a few H3s. Obviously, try not to use them just to make text look bigger
