I've used a laptop as my primary machine since '96 or so. Mostly, the problem was that data needed to be in two places, and as it exceeded the size of a floppy, it became too unwieldy. I've never used those docking stations, so, I've truly been using a laptop and the trackstick/trackpad as my primary machine.
One thing to note -- if you do it, get a suitably powered machine and plenty of ram. That will make it more enjoyable to use and you won't be frustrated because it is slow. If you sit in one place a lot, consider that docking station.
There is nothing like the freedom of being able to work in the office, bedroom, living room, outside (there are 3 days a year where this is possible in Florida), etc. I would never trade my laptop for a desktop again.
Busy day ahead -- for the project I'm helping my nephew with, we got the Circuit City Gift Cards with the logo that he designed. For $4.59 more than the gift card, you can put a 600x600 300dpi image on the card and I must say, it looks really nice. That project surely tested my mettle with some theories that I had come up with for another site. The great satisfaction was when he said, "Dude, that build_index function is awesome"
Back to the grind.
