I enjoy the occasional demolition derby too. But I prefer the British style stock cars. That involves an oval track, not a large one, about the size you would get if it ran around the outside of a football pitch, so you can see the whole thing if you stand in a good spot. No one drives high performance cars, they are all junked road cars of the sort you get in a demolition derby. The drivers are all amateurs. Basically, a lot of nutters driving fast round the track trying to come first, with a set number of laps but few rules (I once saw a car win the race with it's engine on fire).
Occasionally they use a figure 8 track to make it more exciting. Often they end with a demolition derby, using the cars that got so badly beat up during the races that they ain't gonna race again!
I find it a lot more exciting than "proper" motor racing (Formula 1, Nascar, US style stocks, etc). And the races are short enough to get in eight or more in an evening, with enough time between races to get a beer in, so by the end, very exciting!
