For stills, I am using a Canon Digital Rebel, 6 megapixel, nice and fast, works like a real camera, no delay between the click of the shutter and the actual picture getting taken.
For video, I use a Canon XL-1, but you might find that overkill. A canon GL-2 isn't a bad choice, the sony is nice... if you want real nice, check out the panasonic AGdvx100:

This runs in 24 frame per second mode, which is really good for getting a look very close to film, if you are interested in going down that route.
Don't forget to allow for software and hardware to edit and create those lovely end files.
