Morning!
DAMN ROOF ICE DAM!
Here's the before pic I took on Saturday:
I managed to chip off about 3' on the far end on Saturday before my back gave out & my fingers started to get frostbite (neck/back problems = poor circulation to hands/feet)
Yesterday, my almost-step-son-in-law took pity on me & came over to help (which means he did most of the work) We realized that the trick is to 1st chip off the 12" of solid fucking ice that accumulated at the bottom in the gutter. Then, once you get about 6' or 8' of that cleared away, you pour a deicing solution on the top part of the ice peninsula that you just created, which loosens up the bottom of the ice from the roof. Then, you take a garden hoe, lift it up a little bit, and watch as a massive block/sheet of ice falls off the roof onto your ladder & all the tools underneath. We got about 1/2 way before the sun started to go down & it got really fucking cold.
Today we tackle the other 1/2. I'll try to take a vid of today's festivities, as well as some of the 8" thick chunks of ice that are on the ground.
