Design colors?
What do you find to be the best most user friendly colors for your site? I hear white background with plain black text works good. I don't know why but I just cant get into that. I keep coming back to the dark colors no matter how hard I try. I am working with Red, Black, and white right now. I am not sure I am happy with that. Should Hyperlinks always be blue? How well do the other colors convert?

Depends on what type of site you run. Light pink for teen, black for bondage and some fetishes, Green text helps to get signups in most sites if you only use it on the hard sell bits (and sparsely). Amateur, light almost pastel colours. Dark pink for hardcore, but not red as it makes people think "danger" and avoid getting out their cards (but sometimes 'danger' can be a good way to get them to think, eg if you promote motorcycle chicks doing stunt riding nude!!!). Yeah I hate black text on white too, but I'd use it for reality type sites (with 'courier new' as a font). But as a general rule I just try several colour combinations and go with whatever feels right for that site.

LOL so I guess Red is not good for a multi catagory, i.e Amateurs, big tits porn stars.
Thats funny that different colors sell better. I guess it true because alot of this is just suffer mind set. Great help man thanks. |

I remember a few years ago I put up a post asking something around the same lines. I know people have done studies on peoples moods with colors. IE light blue is a calming color and that's why most mental wards us it on their walls. I would love to see a study on web colors and how they relate to buying habits. I started to look at alot of the big selling sites like ebay and found most have white as their backrounds.

Here is some color theory sites for you.
http://www.sibagraphics.com/colour.php http://www.color-wheel-pro.com/color-meaning.html A nice little site color designer tool: http://websitetips.com/colortools/sitepro/ I remember seeing a ethnic color definition table once, but, can't find it right now. It had things like red meant virginial in India, which is why their wedding gowns are not white, etc. |
