How can people think like this
You may be aware that in Britain we currently have an unprecedentedly large number of celebrities facing prosecution for sexual offences against children in the 1970s and 1980s (because in the 1970s and early 1980s child rape cases were not well reported on, and a lot of victims felt that as their abuser was a "star" and they were a mere child, they would not be believed - but about a year ago a much loved TV presenter and DJ was found to be a serial molester, probably the most prolific child molester ever, and the publicity has meant that many people feel they will now be believed and so are reporting the incidents of assault by other celebrities of the time). Since most of these cases happened in the 1970s and 1980s most of the abusers who are being charged now are old men.
Yesterday a "human rights lawyer" published an online article about the situation. And I find it really hard to understand how a human being can have these views: She describes the arrest of these child molesters as "the persecution of old men” and calls tor the age of consent to be dropped to 13 to prevent the police charging people for “low-level misdemeanours”. As this person is a lawyer she is presumably an intelligent human being (although I use the term "human being" loosely). And yet she considers the rape of children a “low-level misdemeanour” and the prosecution of the bastards who do this as "the persecution of old men”! Where the fuck do these people come from, and why the fuck do we allow them oxygen? http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk...3-8608794.html |

Because the Brits are so soft. My mum left UK years ago - she's a Scot and is horrified at what the Brits have become. She is now ashamed to be "British"

She said "British" not "English" ! There is one hell of a difference. The British Isles consist of Ireland, Wales, Scotland and last of all England.

Incidentally, the British Isles do NOT consist of Ireland, Wales, Scotland and England, Britain is the land mass that England, Wales and Scotland lie on, it does not include Ireland, You are thinking of the United Kingdom, that includes Northern Ireland (although not "Ireland" as a whole, as the majority of Ireland is independent). I know it may sound like I am picking hairs here, but this really matters to the Irish. Call a Scot "British" and he is liable to beat you up, but call an Irishman "British" and he is liable to murder you (literally). I accept that your mother may be different from most of her countryfolk, but this is a very sensitive issue to the Scots and Irish, and if you ever decide to visit the land of your ancestors be careful what you say. It is fine posting anonymously on the Internet, but a careless comment like your last post said in Scotland or Northern Ireland will land you in hospital! |

Yes, I know you are right. Unfortunately the Northern Irish and Scots are stuck with a Brit passport! Roll on Scottish Independence - perhaps then I can get a Scottish passport! The English would do not allow me a Brit passport through my mum or grandparents last time I applied. Funny bunch the English, yet look at all the immigrants who have no roots there, and are dished out passports!

The mistake they are making is that the vote is only in Scotland. A few years ago a British newspaper had its own "referendum" and asked its readers to vote on Scottish Independence. The result was really close, around 50.1% in favour of Independence, 49.9% against. BUT when they calculated the votes via the country the voter lived in, the majority of Scots wanted to remain in the union, but only just (something like 49.5% in favour of Independence, 50,5% against), however English voters were in favour of "throwing the Scots out" (again only just, something like 50.6% in favour of Independence, 49.4%against), so the English "won" it for the Scots!
This was before the financial crash. Next year (when the real referendum happens) it will be worse because a lot of English money is propping up Scotland, and this will cease after Independence. So quite a few Scots who want Independence at some point feel it would be a bad idea right now, while quite a few Englishmen who don't want to see the break up of the union realise it would be financially advisable to "chuck out Scotland"! Actually UK passports are bloody hard to get if you do not have British ancestors, I have plenty of friends who have tried and failed. Most of the "immigrants" you mention do not have UK passports, they are European citizens who can legally treat any EU country as their own, and since pay and conditions are better in Britain, they come over here. This law is an EU law and we are stuck with it because Britain is a member of the EU - Although we are considering having a referendum on leaving that "club" too (but Mr Obama is trying to talk our Prime Minister out of it - seems Obama thinks democracy is only good for US citizens and should not be allowed in other countries). |
