Used to like Palm Sunday when I was a kid. Back then I had to go to church every Sunday, which I found boring. Even back then, when I truly believed in God and the Catholic Church, I hated having to go to mass. But Palm Sunday was different. You got a bit of dried leaf to carry round, and if it was not raining we all got to go outside and march solemnly round the churchyard and church car park with our little bits of dried leaves. It was the one day that mass was fun.
OK, so I accept that nowadays with Nintendo, Playstation, and whatnot - kids of today may not consider that walking round a churchyard carrying a bit of dried leaf is fun. But hey, times were simpler back then, we had to make our own entertainment, and marching round the church grounds solemnly carrying a bit of dried leaf worked for me! ![]() |
