Me Bad English?
Hi - PLEASE be honest!
I've had, and have. some issues with my hosting provider. They DO rock and also never get bad in their language. But. The last responses I've got implies stuff I never said. Especially the last one, which showed tons of restraint in being polite, is not even close to the problem and what I was asking for help about. (Ok, bad sentence, sorry) I know I get overconfident in my English-skills, but my English doesn't suck, does it? Grrrrmph. ( I believe and hope they read my tickets to fast) Jlly |

Your English is not bad at all, and you and I have chatted about this for several years. I am going to say it is a good bit better than some of the native speakers in fact. You don't make a lot of spelling mistakes either in your posts here or on your sites.
It's easy to misinterpret something in text. Your "listener" doesn't have facial expressions or tone of voice to help them out. There are a ton of little nuances that you miss in text. Even still, I can hardly imagine that you would ever be rude or inappropriate. I have said it before and will say it again - I will always help out with English especially for the non-English speakers. My English is not perfect (and I am in fact losing a bit of it after living in Finland for over 5 years), but I do try hard to keep my language free of any regional tones. (I do work with a Canadian charity, and always have to remember to use the British spellings when working with them or doing website posts.) You are always welcome to send me the messages in question and I will see what I can do to mitigate the situation. So no, your English does not suck. Your bad sentence might be bad grammatically but it makes perfect sense.

Oh believe me, if your English was bad we would point and laugh.
Besides, your hosting provider is probably American, and they cannot spell in English anyways. |

Spelling now - that is a whole different thing. Too many Americans can't spell even in their own dialect, let alone any other English. 'Murikans just get rid of all those extra vowels that have no meaning and are not pronounced. (Honor - Honour, color - colour, flavor - flavour). It's English, not French!!

Jolly,
On occasion you can tell that it is not your first language but still easy to understand. Far better than a lot of webmasters on your side of the world. |

Well Cockney can sometimes be a "foreign" language. For example:
Gawd, my dogs are barking, I'll be glad to get up the apples to Bedfordshire. But I'd better wash them plates first as I was on the trombone to a Tom earlier, she may be round and let me take her up the Garry. What a tin bath that will be. Translation: Oh my God, my feet hurt, I'll be glad to get upstairs to bed. But I'd better wash my feet first as I was on the telephone to a prostitute earlier, she may be round to let me have anal sex with her. What a laugh that will be. Fortunately, having been brought up in South London, I speak it fluently. |

Texas and the South have a lot of colorful sayings too. We hear a lot of the British accent here - about 1/3 of all our television programs are from the UK. I do okay with it until they get too far north. Then I have to really listen. My husband (and most Finns) can read the text. Sometimes, that makes more sense to me than the bleeding accents. And now that I have been away from Texas, I have a bit of a harder time with them thar Southern drawls. Written is so much easier.
