Martha Martha Martha!
What a great day this is! A day I will always remember!
Martha Stewart is now out of that hell hole where she was kept for 5 months with other dangerous criminals such as fraud artist and small time drug dealers, having only her street smarts keeping her alive in horrific conditions that made “Shawshank” look like a “Vacation” movie. She is now being forced to live yet another 5 months of pure hell on her multimillion dollar ranch where she will not be able to go anywhere outside her mansion. Not even to pet her horses…. Even though she risked her freedom and made a statement by doing so as soon as she got home. SHE WILL NOT BOW DOWN! She has done far more for the human race by going to jail for those long hard 5 months then Nelson Mandela has ever dreamed of doing in his 20+ years and I'm glad all the news stations and news sites are devoting such a high priority to her every move today. Why, I’m not ashamed to admit it, but it made me cry and realize what a horrible human being I am and how selfish I have been when I saw her give coffee and hot coco to those freezing reporters....snif...coffee SHE MADE...ON HER OWN! God Bless you Martha and God Bless America! |

Took the hint.

On a local radio station talk show today, the (female) host refered to Martha Stewarts TV show as "porn for women".
I almost drove off the road laughing at her. Alex |

As an ex-stockbroker, do you think she knew what she was doing wrong?
As much money as she has, she spent 5 months in jail and 4 more months under house arrest because she didn't want to lose $54k. Her legal fees surely have eclipsed the amount of money she would have lost if she had just taken the whipping. Not quite the savvy I would have expected from a CEO of a multi-billion dollar company. While I think the government was overly aggressive, I feel that they haven't done enough for Ebbers and his wife's behavior. All I know is, if I had defrauded hundreds of thousands of investors and ruined their retirement funds with worthless stock that I was selling while telling them to buy, I am damn sure I wouldn't have walked away with only 12 months. And then for his wife to ask for concurrent sentences so that they could care for their kids. If my wife and I colluded like that, you can be damn sure any kids I had would be wards of the state - and I'd be in jail for years. If I ever go to court again, I'm going to ask to be tried as a celebrity.

See seems to be doing very well.
She floats when dropped. Personally I think a very huge fine would have fit the crime more. |

Sparky, remember this: While she was in jail, the value of her share of MSO went from about 500million to almost a billion - she made about 100 million a month IN THE SLAMMER.

She is not well known over here. When the story first broke I was talking to someone who had never heard of her and said something like "She is an American icon, everyone over there loves her". My friend thought about it then asked "Oh, does she own the vineyard?"

If she had taken the insider trading rap, its a cash fine and usually doesn't exceed a reversal of the trade + a %. Insider Trading doesn't involve any jail time, although, she would have lost her brokerage certificate. As it stands, she's an accredited broker that seemingly doesn't know how to properly request a stop-loss order.
It was the Obstruction of Justice charge that landed her in Camp Cupcake which I believe could have had a five year term, and I believe there is manditory jail time. Its my personal opinion that she did get a call from Waskall that advised her to dump her shares. I think she called her broker and said, hey, dump my stock first thing. When Stockwatch made the call to investigate, she said, no, it was a well timed sale and figured it would be left at that. To cover her ass, she called her broker, had him change his sheet, sent him on vacation for backing up the story and thought it was behind her. In the era of Corporate Fraud, the .bomb, the failure of many companies to properly report results, massive bankruptcies, questionable booking of earnings, etc, she became the poster child, whether deserving or not. I think the government did get a bit greedy and I believe it was insider trading. Why she was that concerned over $54k really is the thing that gets me. If she had just admitted that she did get the info in Waskall's call the night before, Waskall would have been indicted , she would have lost the $54k, paid a fine (probably another $25k) -- she protected him at great cost to herself. Until her name is cleared and the felony reversed, she cannot head a public company. Noble effort... wrong cause.

She's got a rough road ahead though -- since she's been in prison, the company has lost advertisers and posted its first two quarters of losses.

it's funny that Martha is the "big" criminal while people that ran a billion dollar company get extremely light sentences and keep most of their money while some people lost their entire life savings and then some on the deal, it's always nice how "big business" always finds somebody else to put the blame on when everything goes to shit, and the government always agrees with them, kind of like when sponsors go belly up and keep all of your money

I, for one, am appalled that this dangerous criminal is free again to roam the streets. Okay, the hallways of her mansion. Whatever.
You do realize, Ms. Stewart was never actually found guilty of insider trading. Or masive fraud. Or...pretty much anything of substance. Her crime? LYING. Not perjury - nothing so noble as that. Nope, Martha was found guilty of flat-out, old-fashioned, mama's gonna take a switch to your ass LYING. If we can let a convicted LIAR like Martha Stewart roam free, what message does that send to The Children? It's a sad day for America. |

Umm, but just had another thought. If your President does get arrested for lying, please send him to jail, don't put him under house arrest in the Whitehouse. I think I speak for the rest of the world when I say I don't really want George W. locked in a building, bored stiff, where the only entertainment is pressing that pretty red button.

Govt goes after Martha.
Govt gets Martha. Martha isn't stupid... plays trump card. Martha stock increases while in prison.. oooowwww.. Martha released gets I'm guessing over 20 million in free advertising. Moral - good thing we spent millions of our tax dollars prosecuting a crime for 54K. Give her a couple of years, she'll have her entire empire back, she isn't stupid.

This entire thing was a huge waste of tax payer dollars but I'm sure the prosecuter now has a better resume and will probably have a book deal soon.
Let's prosecute Martha because she's famous. Let's go after pornography. Let's not go to hard on major corporate fraud that takes the life savings of 100,000s of people. After all, I'm sure they will donate some funds for the next election. |

I'd pay good money to be confined to house arrest for 5 months at her estate
![]() I figure with the amount of time I spend confined to this chair, I should be allowed to do a couple of crimes, lmao

There's 168 hours in a week. Most people sleep 56 a week so that leaves 112. Spend an hour a day getting ready in the morning and another hour winding down at night. That leaves 98 waking hours a week with nothing to do. She can be gone for almost 1/2 of those. On average I'm not sure that I leave my home for 48 a week. |
