I know Who !

For those of you living in parts of the world where the DR Who documentary was not screened, we now know who takes over as the New Doctor later this year. (Spoiler alert, if you don't want to know who is Who, leave this thread now.)

It is Peter Capaldi.

If you have no idea who he is, he played Malcolm Tucker (the swearing guy) in the TV show "The Thick of It" and the film "In The Loop". For those of you with a long memory, he was also in the film "Local Hero", which is one of the ten best movies ever made (IMHO). He has been in Doctor Who (the Pompeii episode) and the Torchwood "Children Of Earth" season (season 3).

Stupid trivia fact: When he was a teenager he wrote to the Radio Times (one of the two TV guides published in Britain back then) on the occasion of the tenth year of Doctor Who. His letter ended hoping the series would still be around in 15 years to celebrate the 25th year. Ironically, the show is celebrating it's 50th anniversary by giving him the title role.

Annoying act of future telling: Last night I was reading an article on the odds the various bookies were offering on who was going to take over the Doctor role. Something I had seen in an interview with Matt Smith and David Tennant made me think, when I read the odds on Peter Capaldi, "Oh, yes, I think it is him". I decided to go to the bookies in the morning and put a bet on it, but I forgot. Ah well, he was only 2:1, so I'd have only won £20. Still, I am a bit pissed that I forgot.

Yes, they showed it here on BBC America.

I didn't know who he was but looked familiar to me, when they mentioned the Pompei episode it made sense to. Of course, my wife remembered his face from Torchwood.

Surprisingly I thought he was older than I am but actually younger. I will miss Matt but still really miss David.

Now bring on the new Who shows already, jeez.

More stupid trivia. If you look up Peter Capaldi in Wikipedia or IMDB, you'll see that his film credits include "World War Z" where he plays "WHO doctor" (in this case that's the World Health Organization, but still good trivia).
