Basically the toplist is set up on a rolling 24 hour period, meaning that stats aren't calculated just during a particular 24 hour period (ie. midnight to midnight). If, for example, you sent a person at 8pm, when 8pm rolls around again, that stat would drop off. This gives more people the opportunity to be listed since sending consistent traffic gives you a better chance to be listed rather than someone forcing a bunch of traffic right at the beginning, and then having the top spot all day long without sending anyone else.
The list updates once an hour to reflect any changes.

Kat - so it would pic up on clicks from a free site that carries your recip listed and clicked as well as a hard link?

Sorry just trying to pick up on the top list traffic niche..not always clear (my own fault) on how all linking strategies work.
