Question newbie site promotion question

I just started a new free site this week http://thesexbox.biz (my first) and have had limited success getting listed. The site is pretty general containing hardcore (~800 pics) and softcore (~300 pics) plus online games plus a page of dumb animations.

I noticed that the majority of the free sites that get listed have a few small galleries which are feeding a pay site.

So should I continue to try and get my site listed directly or should I use some of my content to create feeder sites to my free site since it doesn't really seem to fit in?

Any suggestions?

Thnx,

Chubster

p.s. If anyone is looking for programming help I could use the cash

Hey Chubster

I'd suggest you make a bunch of feeder sites that mainly promote paysites, like the other stuff you've seen listed, and then have a couple of links on each of these sites to http://thesexbox.biz/.

This isn't really the business of giving away free porn, so if you're making free sites to promote a free site, you're probably not going to make any money.

Good Luck!

Matt

Thanx for the advice.

Just built my first feeder:

http://thesexbox.biz/intrusion/

Now all I need is a decent site to feed (LOL)

Why would you want to give away 1100 pics for free?

20-30 is plenty to wet their whistle & get them to join a paysite

I agree it does sound a bit crazy.

My plan is to add more content and turn it into a pay site offering customers pics, games, humor and video with multiple "niche specific" tour entrances.

Does that sound like a reasonable approach?

You'll probably loose a lot of money in the meantime - plus once you turn it into a paysite, you're gonna have to go back to all your link trades & tell them it's changed (or elase you'll be blacklsited in most cases)

Why not just make it a paysite now?

Mostly because I want the site to be the same quality level as other pay sites.

I just created a members area and applied to CCbil to get the ball rolling.

Assuming I start off with the exisiting content, any recommendations on what I should charging per month?

Thanx,

chubster

Whoa there soldier, throttle back a bit. You say "I just started a new free site this week....my first" then you say "My plan is to add more content and turn it into a pay site". You should maybe consider walking before you start running, unless you have a desperate desire to loose a few thousand dollars. Paysites are expensive to run (I can tell you from experience) and unless you are intending to use the "rip of surfers and get as much money before they realize" approach, (which from what you say I don't think you are, you seem to want to run a good site), you are going to have to look to spending a lot of money each week to keep updating your paysite.

First off work at getting traffic to your free site, if you want to run paid sites, set up a few AVS sites so you get experience in running on the pay model. Do not even consider running a paysite until you are getting a few thousand good hits a day, or you will end up getting so few members that you will loose a fortune (it is no good spending a few hundred dollars a week or even a month on fresh content for your members if you are only getting $80 a month in membership fees).

I would suggest you spend next weekend reading through as many articles as you can on the many adult webmaster sites that you will find on the net.

As to your existing site, it is a great site, but no good as a free site, it has much to much free content on it, no one who visits it will want to spend more on a "members area" and most of the good link lists will not link to a free site with that much free content on it.

However one suggestion I have that I think will solve all your problems, is a scheme run by Adult Verifier. They have a program for sites with 1000+ pictures that is run like an AVS, but because it only has big sites on it sells like a paysite. You can find them at:
http://www.adultverifier.com/cgi-bin...ters.cgi?42986
take a look at it (click on the link that says "Ultra" to see the program I am talking about).

If I was you, the first thing I would do would be to sign up your existing site on their Ultra program, then use several small sets of your photos to set up several free sites with 20-40 pictures on each one, and advertise your main "Ultra" site on them (something like "the rest of this series, and over a thousand more photos, are on my main site"). Also try TGP posting and pic posting (if your content license allows) to push your Ultra site (to start with put your TGP galleries on a free host until you are certain you can afford the bandwidth).

Sorry if I seem a bit negative in places, but you are making some of the same mistakes that I made when I started, and I spent a lot of time and a lot of money digging myself out of the hole I had dug myself into before even beginning to get where I am today and I want to save you from the same expenses and time wasting that I did.

This scenario is almost perfect for a project that I am working on, but will the Ultra program of AdultVeriier survive the AVS shakeup?

RE:"but will the Ultra program of AdultVerifier survive the AVS shakeup?" I hope so, I have several sites with them, but you can never be certain about anything. However the alternative is to do nothing, and just do a 9-5 for the man (& even then you cannot be secure as I have found a couple of times in the past).

Myself I work on the "never put all your eggs in one basket" principle, I have free sites, AVS sites (with several different AVS companies), a pay site, token sites, a content store, a webmaster site, and even some non-porn sites, plus I do a lot of TGP posting. If one dies on it's ass or even if several die on their asses, I have fall backs, and in case my pay site and all my AVS sites die at once I also push other people's sites.

And I don't just run this "spread" rule to business ideas, but also on sources. If you look at my WM site you will see that I speak highly of my host, although I do get a percentage of sales I push at them I do genuinely mean it when I say they are the best I have ever tried, but if you track down all my sites you will find that they are only one of five hosts I use. The other four are inferior, but I stay with them suffering a poorer service and paying more money because there is always the possibility that my main host will go tits up, however good they are, so I keep back ups.

It is the only way to go, if you avoid doing something because of the risks you will miss out your one big chance, but if it is the only thing you do then you risk ending up with nothing.

My philosophy is work hard, sleep little. As someone famous once said "I'll sleep plenty when I'm dead".

|goodnight
