Is this a record?
I set up a new domain, and yesterday (Sunday) it filtered through the DNS records to the point where you could see it on a Whois and (more importantly for me) I could upload stuff to it. So I uploaded a front page and a couple of scripts, but it is not live yet as I am still working on the scripts. I have NOT informed anyone of the URL or even the domain name.
This morning (UK time, it was still Sunday night PST) I start working on the scripts again, and I notice that the counter is registering a hit that is not one of mine. The referring URL is a Whois site. So I check the email account (that was set up specifically as the one listed in the Whois as this domain's address, it is NOT recorded anywhere else), and surprise surprise I have two spam emails already. Less than 24 hours since the Whois became readable, and with no links anywhere yet (so the Whois must have been found by someone using a script that tried random words) and already the email address in the Whois has been harvested by spammers!!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Now do you see why - the moment I am made total dictator of the entire world - Link List and TGP webmasters who have a 'no domains that use the registers hidden details service' rule, will be lined up against the wall and shot. |
