Heheh... well, I'm sure 1-2 hours is laughable in your case... but you also accept gallery (TGP) submissions and have a very established site. I'd be surprised if your reviewer wasn't working 40 hours/week!

But, I think for a small-to-mid size LL that only takes free sites (no galleries)... reviews shouldn't take more than a few hours/day.

Hiring someone outside the adult biz might save some money, but it'd be better to get someone who already know the terrain and won't be jerking off constantly.

The reason to hire outside of the adult biz is many.
To have a reviewer who will not quit in one month. To have a reviewer is not too busy doing his own work and forgetting yours. To have a reviewer who will not load your site with too many of his own links. To have a reviewer who's job is simply to review and help you run your site.
