I think this is a mistake for several reasons.

1) building and submitting a free site is just about an hour out of the day.
2) you can always use link outs from it to support your blogs with extra traffic (in place of a sponsors link out)
3) diversity is the key.

If tomorrow google drops blogs as 'old news' from the engines where would you be? keep diversifiying, its the spice of webmaster life
