while we're on the subject of Canada - I see "significant changes to Bill C-2, the child protection legislation, the House of Commons justice committee approved a slew of tough mandatory minimum jail terms for those who sexually exploit children.
The changes will create new mandatory minimum punishments and eliminate house arrest and other conditional sentences to be served in the community. More specifically, people convicted of sexually interfering with a child, inviting a child to engage in sexual touching, possessing child p*rn or accessing child p*rnography on the Internet will face at least 14 days in jail for less serious incidents and 45 days for more serious incidents that are prosecuted by indictment. Those convicted of making or distributing child pornography would face mandatory minimum penalties from 90 days to one year"
