What I did was simply turn off the wi fi on the U-verse Gateway and plug my dual wan router into it with my own router set to dynamically get it's ip from the U-Verse one
So my hookup is, the only things plugged into my U-verse is my tv boxes, my living room media center pc, and my router
My router is also plugged into my 8 meg comcast modem
I don't do load balancing because of the disparity of 18 meg att and 8 meg comcast, but use my routers port access control to route specific programs ports to use the comcast first (my trading platforms, napster, etc), with both gateways in a fall back in case either goes down
All my wireless is handled by my own router
