Wow it's really cold here, only 69˚F this morning.
![]() I know how chilly it is this morning because the first thing we had to do was get out the 12 volt tire pump and fill up Christy's flat tire that had a big roofing screw in it before the sun came up this morning. She just called me from the local tire place that charged her $28 bucks to fix it. Her job will reimburse her since it was a roofing screw but when did fixing a flat start costing $28 bucks? I'm loving this U-Verse. I'm amazed how fast it is. It actually got fast several hours after it was installed and I'm now getting over 14 kbps. ![]() The only thing I don't like about it is that the gateway doesn't allow loopback or putting it in bridge mode so that I can use my own router so we have to turn off wifi on our iPhones to use the X10 controller and then turn wifi back on to use the iTunes remote. Both of us have annoying mild colds that are lingering. Going to try to make it to the gym today depending on how I feel in a few hours. I'm behind in work due to having most of yesterday disrupted with the U-Verse install so also going to be trying to get caught up in work today. |

So my hookup is, the only things plugged into my U-verse is my tv boxes, my living room media center pc, and my router My router is also plugged into my 8 meg comcast modem I don't do load balancing because of the disparity of 18 meg att and 8 meg comcast, but use my routers port access control to route specific programs ports to use the comcast first (my trading platforms, napster, etc), with both gateways in a fall back in case either goes down All my wireless is handled by my own router |

It actually sounds like you are double NATed if you have both your router and their gateway doing NAT. Either way it doesn't solve the problem of their gateway not allowing loopback. The only way there would be to solve that is to put their gateway into bridge mode and using your own router but their gateway can't be put into bridge mode. As an experiment I tried making my Airport Extreme the router and setting up DMZ to it from their gateway but as expected this didn't solve the loopback issue. I've posted on the developer’s website for the X10 Commander asking if he could add the ability to add more then one server so that I could put the local address and the public address in it's prefs and he said he would look into it. The only other solution that I can think of is to setup BIND on one of my Macs and add in the private IP of the Mac that runs the X10 server software and then pointing the DNS on my phone to my own name server. But BIND looks pretty complicated and scary. |
