![]() There is family and then there are relatives. At least we get to pick our family.
Going back three decades or so I had very wealthy grandparents on my mother's side that hated me because I was from my mom's second marriage and my dad was way too dark for these Catholic, Scandinavia, German, better than everyone else snobs that lived in the Northeast. When they died my half bother and half sister, my mom along with some other relatives got a trust fund but as far as I knew I got nothing which seemed about right considering how despised I was by my grandparents. BUT... seems that now that the person that had been in charge of the trust has died and some probate court has taken over the estate I was supposed to get a nice little chunk of change when my mom died as part of the estate was supposed to have been spilt up amongst her children, including me. So I get a letter a few months ago stating that I need to sign off that I got this money and also the estate can't be liquidated until I sign off and if I don't I will be sued for the money (the money that I never got). I don't know how much money is involved, at least not my part of it. I'm guessing enough to pay off some bills and take a nice vacation. Half my relatives are like just give her the money so that we can all get our money but a few want to fight all of this until death which probably isn't that far of for them considering their ages and the fact that they all seem to have cancers. Personally I think that the lawyers are going to end up with whatever is left of this trust. I just know that I'm not signing off on money that I never got so I'm like pay me and you all can fight for the rest of it. In the meantime I'll just be working trying to make ends meet so today will be just another day spent home working. |
