Saturday 17th, and we don't got the weather we were promised!

On Thursday a friend asked me to "apartment sit" for him over the weekend as he wanted to go away. He lives in a penthouse overlooking the river in the better part of London (last valued at about $10 million), I live in a shitty little apartment in one of the worst parts of London, so it should have been a no-brainer. However I had wanted to go to the coast this weekend, so I was not best happy. But I eventually agreed. This morning the sky is cloudy with a lot of dark rain threatening clouds, not the beach weather that we were promised, so I guess my friend did me a favour. And my subconscious tried to make up for my missed seaside trip - last night I dreamt that I was sitting on the beach.

This morning I wandered out on the balcony before breakfast and noticed a small flotilla of barges sailing slowly along the river. A few minuites later they turned round. After breakfast I noticed that they had turned back in their original direction, as though they were sort of circling, and I wondered what they were doing. Eventually I remembered that there is an entrance to London's canal system roughly where they were circling. I'm guessing that they too believed the good weather forecast and decided to spend the weekend sailing on the canals. I'm also guessing that the lock keeper is late and they cannot get from the river to the canals, so are circling while waiting for him to get his lazy ass out of bed!
