I crop images for thumbs, I crop images for banners, I crop images for headers. I even use their backgrounds sometimes. If it's all used to promote the sponsor they've never had an issue with it. And yes I've asked.

My blog has multiple sponsors. Still, I could ask I suppose.

I like to ad a nice touch to most of my blogs. I hire a cartoonist to make a drawing and my designer will create a header with a matching color skin. When I am on a budget, I use the same cartoon over, flip it horizontally and change the hair color of the girl :-) Overall, it will cost me around 60 bucks to have a custom blog design with nice drawing (that roughly equals 2 or 3 sales). I wouldn't even ask.

The most important thing about the header, no matter who provided the content or if it's linked to a paysite, is that it tells the surfer that he/she is most definately on a porn site, and that he/she has found what they were searching for. First impressions and all that shit.
