Isn't this illegal?

While checking my stats just now, I found a hit from a link list that didn't sound familiar. When I clicked on the link, I found pictures from my site:

on this page:

Not hotlinked, apparently, but, I guess, grabbed from my site and posted on this link site (with a tiny link to my site at the bottom of the page). Since I paid for the license to display these pics on my domains, I'm assuming that this person is exhibiting them illegally and that I should get word to the content provider I bought them from--yes?

Anyone else familiar with this site or practice? Am I missing something here, or is this totally f'ed up?

dunno about the legalities but you cant complain to much he has put a linkback on the bottom of the page going back to your site.

Mandrake theft is theft, doesnt matter how many links he has, or how many apologies he makes. Thrillho paid for that content and for the right to display it. The thief did not!

I sent an email to webmaster@porn-in-web.com (no mailto on his site) letting him know I'd seen the pics and that he was not authorized to post them on his domain. I told him that I expected a quick reply letting me know that the pictures had been removed. I also notified the content provider of the situation. I guess if I don't get a response today, I'll see what I can do about notifying his host.

By the way, I did a whois search on the domain. Got a name, but that's about all the info that was there.

This is how stupid that thief is, if he had never mentioned your site on his, never linked to it, and came up with his own simple descriptions, he would not have been caught. Sure, you may have stumbled on his dumb ass some day, but maybe would have thought that he too purchased license to those pics.

I tend to think that there has to be some rule of psychology that makes these guilty fools pave the road to their capture. What would Freud and Jung say about such morons?

I have been thinking the same thing: how can I know if someone steal pics from my site, as everyone can buy them from content provider? It's nice to see that they are morons, and link back to the site where they stole the pics.

Do content providers check sites? They usually want a list of domains where I use the content I buy, and I list all my domains as I don't know beforehand where I'm going to use that content, except if it is for one niche domain like my tranny domain. I mean do they have someone who surfs net and when see their content checks if that domain is in some list or so? If I'd been a content provider I'd do that.

Well, there will always be scam artists. I have been in many businesses all my life, and I have seen lot of those. They have never won in the long run.

Heh heh, I must tell this story. My ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend who was a scam artist himself, bought a small restaurant. Seller wanted half price lawfully and half blind. They said yes. When that bozo came to collect the blind money after all the papers were signed, my ex's boyfriend put a pistol on his throat and told that everything was already paid. I laughed my ass off when I heard that (my ex told me, and I believe it's true, his boyfriend tried to sold me guns). One scam artist got what he deserved.

In real life and in net honest business men/women are those who win.

Yes he should complain because it can get him deep in the sticky brown stuff. If content provider who sold the picture to thrillho saw this he would assume that thrillho had given the picture to the other webmaster to use in exchange for the link and would have been after thrillho for heavy financial compensation, not the other guy. He may even add thrillho's details to cheater's lists, leaving thrillho looking like the guilty party instead of the victim.

Well, the email I sent to webmaster@porn-in-web.com got sent back to me, so I found his domain server and informed them of the situation. Definately the way to go! I received an email from him within the hour--offering to either take down the copyrighted pictures or put my banner on the pages on his server. After explaining the concept of the "license" (I figure everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt once, after that they're either criminally stupid or stupidly criminal), I opted for the former. And included the url of this thread, explaining that there were a substantial number of notable webmasters who would be keenly interested in any sort of explanation he might have.

Received an email from Peter, the guy at porn-in-web, in which he asks that I post his reply here--so here's the letter:

Hello Lee,

That's my fault.
There are two pieces of software - the first one that copies free
site to my domain and the second - that allows webmasters to add their
own banners OR request to completely remove gallery from the site.

I have found a bug in the second part of software that completely
crashed my mysql database and trying to fix it.
when it's done (I hope in couple of days) all webmasters will have
ability to add/modify their banners or delete their galleries.

Moreover, I just found that "contact me" link on the bottom of the
page goes to 404

I will remove your gallery immediately.

So he has a script that copies free sites & adds them to his domains? the entire sites? pics, banners, text, etc? That's got to be illegal (especially since I doubt he has a license to use the pics he's copying to his domain)

After I checked and saw that he'd removed the pages with my pictures, I looked through the rest of the mature niche links he had and, though there weren't many (mostly links to paysites), sure enough, there was another site of mine from about a week ago. Well, the photos from a site of mine, banner ads not from a site of mine, and a tiny link to my site at the bottom of the page (checked my stats just out of curiosity--0 hits from his domain on that site). As I was typing out an email containing some of the same points GG just made (eg. it's not good form to steal and then post someone else's content, then wait for them to maybe somehow find out and then let you know whether or not they approve--or whether or not you might be breaking the law), I got another email from him asking if I had an icq number, as he had a couple of questions he wanted to ask me. I've sent him my number, and I hope he does icq me with some questions. I've sure got some answers.

I'm the owner of porn-in-web.com and I will try to explain the situation.

I was trying to make some innovations to link lists but now it's clear to me that this won't work as I expected.

There were two scenarios of work with my program.

1. free site is loaded to my server and after this a webmaster puts his banner to the top of the page

2. webmaster asks to download his freesite and tells what banner he wants.

Now it's clear that the first option won't work because there is no mechanism to notify webmaster that his site was downloaded.
But I didn't think that there will be so many other problems (that webmasters don't want their sites downloaded).

Moreover I made a mistake in script template and url of contact page was incorrect.

I'll remove ALL galleries that I downloaded and will work on my software (second option).
