Damn, just dawned on me, we should have had a pool going on if Marice Clarrett gets drafted or not.

If hes taken before the 6th round I would be shocked.

Not many trades going on like people figured. I was hoping the Browns could trade down. But Edwards is an ok pick since we had to stick to #3. As a lifelong Buckeye fan though. It's gonna be tough getting past that michigan thing........ (hey Braylon.. lots of touchdowns would help me get over it)

whats worse, Aaron Rogers going into the draft thinking he was a #1 pick or having to sit there for 3+ hours hearing why you are still sitting there?

That has to be tough... just sitting there watching money fly away. Altho, it could land him with a better team, unless he lasts into the 2nd round.

I'm happy as hell that Rogers fell that far... we might finally have a decent backup for Brett plus he can't play forever

Yeah, he couldn’t ask for a better teacher to learn from, but now can he handle being the man who might take over for Bret?

I don’t think I would want that job. Every Monday hearing “Bret would have made a TD, Bret would have done this, Bret would have…”

I just feel like getting beat up, so here's my prediction. Aaron Brooks will learn to not be retarded with a little protection from our #13 pick, Jammal Brown of Oklahoma.
Deuce McAllister will have a phenomenal year. Joe Horn will be outstanding and
Haslett will get a new contract because the Saints will sweep the South.

Ok, so it's wishful thinking. But I got my season tickets. Maybe I'm still pickled from last year's trips to the French Quarter after the games.

I don't put as much faith in Vick as everyone else does. We have beaten the Falcons before, and I hope we will again. The secret is containing his scramble.

Brooks is a helluva scrambler too if the line would give him somewhere to go.

Who Dat?

How the mighty (mouth) has fallen

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2063459

Yet another athlete with million dollar talent and a 10 cent attitude. He would have been a serious Heisman candidate had he kept his mouth shut and just played his game, but.....

Would love to see him have to repay $6 million +

Ramster since you are so far up north, you may not know much of the antics of Winslow, he is the son of a Hall of Famer and when he was at Miami I picked him as the Heisman winner early, since he made not big plays, but huge plays.

Then he started talking to the press which began his downfall and after a game in which they won, he was all pissed off and running his mouth and said he is a solider and that it is a war zone out there and he’s for real and will kill anyone who gets in his way, this was a few weeks after Pat Tillman was killed.

He refused to apologize, and his plays went from big time to “get that guy off the field, he’s in the way” all the time while running his mouth and blaming everyone from the press to the coach to the qb, never once himself for the fumbles and drops.

Now at Cleveland he is doing the same shit, makes one or 2 good plays and then gets hurt and runs his mouth… This guy is what is wrong with sports, when they think they are bigger then the sport itself.

That whole thing was blown way out of proportion - how many time in the past have you heard football referred to as "war" & the field as a "battle field"

It's doubtful that he will lose the entire 6mil. The Browns are actually in a fairly sticky place, here. They can't play complete hardball, because there are future free agents to consider. If they take to hard of a line, they may make players reluctant to come here. They also don't want to come off as too soft.

Also, Winslow is still only 21 and will only be 22 when he can come back next year. He probably still has a long and maybe great career ahead of him. IF, he grows up.

Most likely they work on restructuring his contract. Load it with more incentives to offset any monies lost this year.

As for Winslow.... he's just a stupid kid, who I hope will now have the motivation to grow up a little. He really does have all the talent in the world. It would be a shame to see him waste it.

He'll grow up just like Randy Moss and J.R. Rider did.
At least we have KG around! And I'm beginning to really like Tory Hunter from the Twins. He bitched a little bit about his contract, but not to the media.

In response to Trev's comments -
I think you're going to see a lot more Incentives and less Upfront money in the future.
If players aren't smart enough to go to Lloyds of London and get a 10+ million dollar insurance policy against them getting injured, that's their problem.

Who was the pitcher from the Red Sox that got a 13 million bonus for them winning the series?
That's the kind of contracts there should be.
Very low pay during the season, but bonus' for each step in the playoffs.

Incentives can be tricky. He already lost around 9mil worth of 'easy' incentives from his record 40mil contract by breaking his leg on that onside kick at the end of his second game. So he never had a chance to reach any of them.

Quote:

Incentives like that can be tough in the sports with salary caps. You would have to leave a lot of room in your cap, if half of your roster has significant bonus clauses in their contracts.

Oh man, I hope not. Not just because I'm a Browns fan, but his father was one of my favorite players back in the day. But, it seems to me like he needs to put his foot of Jrs ass, instead of 'protecting' him.

Incentive clauses are separated into two categories for computing salary cap. Those that are considered "likely to be met" get counted toward this years cap. Those that considered "unlikely to be met" are not. At the end of the season, unmet "likely", and met "unlikley", are tallied up for each team and a debit or credit is applied to the next season's cap. It can get a bit confusing, but it's not half as bad as the mess used by the NBA.
