ADK vs. Bank Tellars II
I complained about this before, but my last visit to the bank brought me to a new level of frustration. I had a bank tellar refuse to cash two American cheques because she didn't recognize the banks...What they will usually do is freeze the money until someone verifies that the bank exists. She told me I'd have to take the cheques to another part of the province to have them cashed to the branch I opened my account with years ago. This is bullshit. I took the cheques to another branch down the street, explained what I had just been told and they cashed them no problem as they had in the past.
Shouldn't the Canadian banks have a list of American banks? Christ, we share the same continent. I think its the Traffic Cash Gold cheques that make them ask questions. Half of the time they will have someone else look at the cheques from TCG because it lacks something they use to identify the bank (or something like that-I really don't know). But they always get cashed so they're good. And TCG is a good sponsor, so I'm not faulting them. And the girl at tim hortons was being rude. It's been one of the worst customer service days ever!

Yeah I just came back from a bank that holds an account I rarely use (emergency fund). I was told I could not withdraw money because it was over a year since I had used the account. When I asked how I got my money they told me I would have to make three separate payments on three separate days before I could withdraw the money. I pointed out that it was my "emergency fund" and that if had enough money to make three separate payments I would not need to withdraw money. Also I needed the money to pay a bill I had forgotten and had to be paid today, if it could have waited three days I would have enough money in my current account to pay it. No sympathy, I had to wait three days.
The solution: I pointed out that the account was no good to me because apart from replacing the money I was trying to withdraw I would probably (hopefully) not use the account again for several years. So could I please close the account and take ALL the money in it NOW. They started off by telling me that before I did that I would have to make three payments etc. So I pointed out that it was my legal right to close my account whenever I wanted and transfer my money out of their bank. I have no idea if this was true of not but they believed it (I spent a few years working for a solicitor as an outside clerk so have learnt to pepper my statements with legal terms and sound as though I know what I am talking about even when I am spouting bullshit). And when I asked the teller for her full name she panicked and found someone who could clear the block on my account and give me the money right away. |

Why would she be able to recognize ALL the American banks any way? There are more then just a few and I'm sure that my own US bank is not capable of recognizing most of the banks on my checks.
I think she was just having a bad hair day and decided to take it out on you. |

One would think that with the technology we have today, that cashing a god damned check would be a pretty simple task. We can (allegedly) race around Mars with RC cars, but a Bank can't instantly electroncally approve a check. Christ.
