Linkster, I have noticed a number of people using com- style domains because it is a little harder to track them down on google (the standard site tag screws up on that, chokes on the com being so early - especially if there is a third level junk.com-0c.com, example. That will often return stuff from junk.com instead.)
Sponsors need to know that accepting this traffic, EVEN IF YOU HAVE CANCELLED THE ACCOUNT is still profiting from use of copyright materials, and may be subject to DMCA rules. If you have cancelled the account for this, then you KNOW where the traffic is coming from.
It would be in the sponsors best interest to redirect the traffic to a neutral (non-profit) site, maybe like whitehouse.gov or something.
I will be discussing this with a few sponsors in Vegas, including Tony from cybernetbucks. There needs to be a clear understanding on the part of the sponsors that this type of activity is theft and copyright violation, and neither the individual webmaster or the sponsor site should profit from this theft.
