I'm so sorry that you won't be able to go. We wish both you and your wife quick returns to good health.

My mom had an emergency hysterectomy a couple years ago. It probably saved her life, and she felt so much better afterwards. In fact, once released from the hospital she didn't even have to take anything stronger than a tylenol for the pain during recovery (and she's not the tough through it type of gal).

edited to add: I'm not going to Vegas either. Sounds like there will be lots of us around the board still.
