Newbie needs advice..

I'm brand-new to the adult advertising industry and am in need of guidance. I have created a free site advertising adult phone #s.

http://www.phonesexgoddess.com/

It is a version (1) site and is very simple compared to many I've seen. I used Dreamweaver to create it and I know it needs alot of work still - That's why i'm here to ask for your help. Is Dreamweaver the best program to work with as a newbie??

I have not created any links yet, but I do plan on it. I've been reading alot about website optimization and can see that multicopying and automatic duplicating sites is frowned upon and terms for engines ignoring your site, but then again - I can see some high ranking sites doing just that. So I am gonna need referance to any helpful articles you may have come across and have ears wide open to any comments you have to offer.

Thanks so much in advance for your help, it would save me from pulling any more hair out trying to figure this all out on my own.

Well, I'll jump in with a quick bit here.
You are using spaces in your filenames, such as: background-image: url(White%20Seethru.JPG);

See how %20 is inserted where you actually had a space in the filename. You should avoid spaces in names and URL's because not everyones browser will be able to interpret them as you intend. Instead, use an underline, ie:"White_Seethru.JPG".
That way it's still easy to read, and avoids the issue.
Also, you might want to set a standard for how you name the extension, because to a unix based server, .JPG is not equal to .jpg. Keeping them in one format all the time can help later on when you migt have 50 or 100 sites to maintain.
I also always try to use a full url to images, ie: "http://www.phonesexgoddess.com/white_seethru.jpg". Thats how it might look if it was a site of mine.

The main thing is the spaces though, the rest is just suggestions for organizing things and such.
Have fun

Thanks Porn Meister, I appreciate your input.

It was Dreamweaver when I created the site that added %20, I can fix that though.

Something worth mentioning was my frustration with the DW program and the limited fonts I could use, so I ended up creating flash text files - Is that going to create an issue with search engine's searching my site ?

Thanki You

You can correct that by not using spaces & odd characters in your file names

Dream Weaver has options for you to add fonts... try that... it will pick up what ever you have available on your hard drive.

And when creating any document... never have a space... use an underscore "_" or a dash "-" never a space, you will avoid all those % problems... its a good habbit to get into

Hi phonesexgoddess and welcome to the board.

There is a lot one could say in answer to your questions, so I'll just chip in some info you might find useful.

First off, yes, go with Dream Weaver. Once in dreamweaver, switch the view to code. You'll pick up html very quickly this way.

Second, about your site. Putting in a search for the phrase "phone sex" on google gives this result . Take apart these sites. Look at the source, back links, site design, etc. Find out how they placed so highly. Use what you find to develop your own site. This is where I would start. You can't build anything without a sturdy foundation.

Hi phonesexgoddess,

DW is a great program if you know it well enough and understand it's quirks. Use DW to help you learn HTML, as kristian said, switch the view to code and then back to design to see the results of your edits.

As far as the %20 thingy goes, click "edit" for the menu then select "preferences" and highlight "code rewriting", you should be able to figure the rest out...

The fonts DW finds on your computer are all it has to work with. You can always add fonts to your computer but remember if you use a font on your web site and the person viewing it doesn't have it installed on their computer, they won't see it.

Anyway, hope that all makes sence...

Regards,
SF

I agree, Dreamweaver is the best program to use. I love it's ftp features.

As smutferret mentioned, becarefull if you add fonts. It's not that DW is limited on fonts, it's just that it uses fonts that every one has on their pc, be it pc or mac. You could design your pages with a font, and if many surfers do not have it installed on their pc, your page could look totally different, even crappy. If you really want to change fonts around, might think about css.

Also, dont forget DW has a lot of reference built in if you get stuck.

As for your site, you do realize you need to add more content, or something of value if you want to get link trades.
