I'm confused...

Everyday I check to see all the fresh, and hot free sites that the good folks approve of at link-o-rama.

And everyday, I end up scratching my head in amazement!

Here's my beef: If you check out the newly added free sites for March 1st, take your time to see how many of the approved submits actually do follow the rules here, while others STILL GET AWAY WITH MURDER! (hint: check the freesites approved on Mar 1st - go about half way down)

I do my damndest to follow the rules - not only to get listed, but also to show respect & build a good relationship with guys like greenguy and mr. marylou.

Then I see free sites getting listed that not only use sponsor content & banners on the warning pages that I would have been crucified for, but they also have 7-8 outgoing links on the warning page!! |shocking|

Is this for real? I mean, do certain rules apply to some while others like me have to ask why all the time and get scrutinized for everything?

That's my rant for the day...

Maybe it is the LL's owners own stuff. Maybe it is sponsor hosted stuff. Maybe the reviewer had a brain fart.

I know its not the owners site - unless the owner lives in toronto too. I checked via the 'whois' route - that was my first clue.

The content is sponsor content. I am certain of this because I saw the sponsor content 2 days ago.

As far as the reviewer having a brain fart, well, that's my place to talk like that. The reviewers at LOR are really nice - and this is not an attempt to lick ass.

I just want to know how this "newbie" can get away with this - over and over.

You want to post some examples of sites that YOU think should not be listed, instead of me guessing at which link(s) "half way down" is bad?

You once told me that sponsor content will NOT get you listed here - especially overused sponsor content.

As far as providing you the name of the freesite, I really don't want to implicate anyone. That's not my style.

I spoke to another senior member of this board. They answered my question. I no longer am confused.

I don't think I've ever said that sponsor content will not get you listed. I have said many times that some sponsor content is very over used & you've got a much better chance of getting listed if you use content that you bought.

If I listed a site that shouldn't be there, of course I want to know about it & look into what happened.

But if you're gonna start a thread like this, at least provide examples that back up your statements - where did I say to never use sponsor content? What sites that I listed have you concerned?

Well might not be my place to say this BUT,who are you to question what a LL owner chooses to place on their site.As long as your following the rules you really shouldn't worry about whats listed.Are you being listed if so then don't bitch because thats what it sounds like to me.
And yes think about it are they not supose to use FHS from sponsors.

I don't think I made any effort at all to sound like I was bitching - if that was your interpretation, or anyone else's, I apologize. I am not a bitch. The title of the thread was "I am confused" - but as I said, I have spoken to another member in good standing that told me that in the end, freesite approvals/rejections are at the discretion of the reviewer. I am looking at chalking this up to a lesson learned.

I hope and trust that greenguy appreciates my confusion. I am not trying to be anything at all really. I was just confused. As I had stated previously, I too am a newbie - and I have a lot to learn.

No hard feelings?

Most link list owners will bend their rules a real lot if all the ads on the site have their affiliate codes in all the ads.

I agree with GG, it seems a bit weird to call someone out and then not provide the details that explain the call out. Perhaps someone listed a site legally then changed it after listing... have you considered that?

Is it a hosted free site?

There are many possiblities, and a call out like this deserves a link so that it can be made clear all around.

And those sites use sponsor content -- thus, the confusion. Being a non-linklist person, I have seen quite a few mentions against using sponsor content and can see how someone would infer that using sponsor supplied content would make getting accepted quite a bit more difficult. I don't believe I ever saw that anyone stated that it was blatantly impossible.

I do recall a thread a while back where someone had taken a hosted free site and copied it to their hosting and changed the links and there was mention that they were declined. But I don't recall anyone saying that they were banned for doing that.
