Well, 4 sales for an hours work is good. Do they get listed in the SES? With a freesite, you also optimize for SE traffic, which brings in sales years after you make the site if done correctly. I've only been doing this for just over a year, but my first sites still make occasional sales, some through SE traffic, some through LLs which have no time limit on how long your sites are up.
Having said that, it really is horses for courses, and while one may do better with free sites, another will do better with galleries, same goes with pic sites/galleries, and movie sites/galleries. Only way to know for sure is by doing it
