Link Trades

What is the best way to go about getting link trades for my new link list? I have thrown that in on a couple of my threads that I was looking for some link trades for my new site Smut Links and have had no one respond.

Is it that I am not worthy? Am I doing something wrong? I agree I am new to the link list world, but am trying to get some guidance. I have been looking for "success" page links so that webmasters who submit to your link list will also submit to mine, and I am looking for normal links to trade traffic.

Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong? Or am I just impatient? I will be feeding the site this week with some traffic once I add a bunch of links to the different categories to get it started.

Any advice you guys can give me would be great.

Are you talking about link swaps with other links lists?

I know I get piles of requests every week, I would imagine GG gets even more.. From my point of view I cant link to "everyone" and I am now pretty picky about who I do link to..


I also find a number of new LL webmasters expecting and asking for front page and main page links etc.. (not directed at you Max)

When you start out you can make some concessions, and/or offer people a little more than a page for page link swap... I know when I used to want to get a site listed on GG(back in the old old days.) I used to put three recips up to him... sometimes more...

So offer a little more to someone you really want to swap with and you may find they are more conducive.

Thanks for the response. I understand I need to build a little traffic first in order to get some big link exchanges for the site.

Right now I am not even just talking about that. When that time comes I am sure the link exchanges will fall into place in order to exchange traffic.

Right now I am thinking about things like success page links. Lets say a webmaster comes to you and submits a link. On your success page, where it says "Hey thanks for submitting to DD's", I am looking for links that say "Dont forget to submit to Smut Links!"

Now a good friend of mine who runs a large link list (I wont mention his name, but you guys would know him, but I also don't think he posts here) has give me a link like that on his page which has helped me get a few links a day submitted to me, but at the pace it is going, it would take me 10yrs to build the link list.

I guess since I am coming from a mostly programming/technical background, and I can code anything imagineable, I struggle with some of the simplest techniques with link lists.

ie., what types of links to accept at first, how to get links submitted to me, etc.

I can buy traffic and do some link exchanges with people once that is up and I have a descent amount of traffic that will be coming in from existing sources, friends and purchased traffic when im ready.

Case in point, I came to this board and about 10 others saying I launched Smut Links. I got the success page link on this other large link list and I sent out a webmaster e-mail to about 900 webmasters who have submitted to my TGP in the past.

I still have only received about maybe 15 submissions if that in the last 3 days. Is this normal? Below normal?

I'm basically just looking for some basic guidlines on how to build this link list and do it right. If you or anyone else has some time to give some pointers just hit me up on the ICQ below so we can chat and maybe this cloudy mess im in will clear up

No its correct in a sense. It goes to my rules page of what I am looking for and how to get the recip links. It says right at the top (Submit link is below rules)

Then at the bottom of the page after you read the rules there is big text that points to the submit page. I just want people to get the info they need and figured the rules page was a good start.

Maybe not? Is it confusing?

Actually I changed it on the site and stuff, now there is a link to the rules on teh submit page instead. Should make it a little easier to find I guess

Yeah I changed the link on the rules page to say "SUBMIT HERE" and I changed my sig and the submit link stuff on the site to point to the submission page instead of rules.

Now you can get to the submit page faster and there is just a link on the submit page that says something about reading the rules.

It takes time. Don't be surprised that you may only see 5 submits each day for months on end......time is key.

Hey Andy,

I was in the same situation you are in about 2 years ago, and all I can say is you have to give it time... At first, I was getting 2-3 submissions a day, and now it is up to 20-30 (not like the big boys, but a big improvement for me!)
