I had a client that bought that script from OldTom. Back in its day, the script was a huge timesaver for someone that didn't want to put in the effort required. I can't say it didn't work, that client did experience pretty nice returns, but, that was then, this is now.

If the software hasn't changed much since '99, it will do the job. You could generate template pieces so that the sites didn't all look the same, but, it was the underlying link structure that OldTom (and Voltar?) put together that works. It is really designed to be a traffic pump fed by search engines & linklist traffic.

OldTom is a decent guy -- have him run you through the admin interface and show you some representative sites, and then see if you can find where many of those sites are listed. Preferably, ask him for some clients that are still using it and talk with them.
